Looks like Molly's bag of greenies is going out the window. Can anyone recommend a chewy type treat that will be good for Molly and keep her occupied for a bit?

Tasha is a flossie addict. Depending on the thickness they last anywhere from 15-60 min.

I'm glad the FDA is finally looking into greenies!

All this info on the Greenies have scared the beejesus out of me, I will never even try these things with Heidi and Princess. They don't gulp their food but still, I am now way too afraid to even think about buying them..

I think the girls can just stick with their Achilles Tendons, their bully sticks, and the marrow bones, the marrow bones are great as they don't splinter or even break apart, they are as hard as granite and as smooth as a stone..

Yeah, no more greenies for Gigi as well. You think I can use them as bookmark? lol.

For treats, Gigi likes THIS (http://www.merrickpetcare.com/store/treats_detail.php?c=24&s=27076) and THAT (http://www.zukes.com/mininaturals/). I also give her bone, raw hide sticks or my foot.

Fortunately, none of my hounds gulp their greenies. They take their time, and they LOVE:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: to the point of addiction thier time with greenies. They get them 3 times a week at the least, and I've had no ill effects. They've been eating them for at least a year or 2.
Maybe I'm the bad mom, but I'm not going to let a few isolated incidents scare me into taking away my dog's most favorite treats. They've had them for so long, if there were going to be an issue, I think they'd have had it by now.

I think the company should just take them off the market before they get more trouble than they bargained for.

After everything I have read on dachshund boards, I don't give them or any similar chews (like Boodas or Dentabones). I can't make my dogs chew something thoroughly!!

I admit I do give CET chews and compressed rawhide though (only as treats when grooming).
Angel got sick on Flossies :(

Bailey loves flossies and Bully sticks. He likes greenies, but hasn't had them in a LOOOONNNGG time and I won't be the one buying them for him!

Molly loves the Booda cornstarch bones, but last time I think they may have given her soft poops, she chews them up all the way, but they are gone in no time, so I don't think we will try those anymore after these are gone. Plus they are exspensive! I tried the compressed rawhide bones and I think she likes them even more, and they last longer. I have never tried greenies, and probally never will, recently I've seen these little baggies of greenie chips (?) I have no idea what you are supposed to do with them, but they don't look like much use either!! I guess these people will try to sell anything!! I asked the other day about the C.E.T chews at the vet, they wanted $16.00 for them! I think I will order them off the link Loren gave out.

Cornstarch frequently gives dogs problems, plus there is no nutritional value in them at all!

Yea..usually if you buy through a vet, it's more costly. Chief really LOVES flossies and bully sticks...they are healthy and I don't have to worry as much as other treats although of course I'm supervising at all times!

Where do you get these achilles tendons, bully sticks, and marrow bones? I need something for Rueben that will last a while. He can put away most things pretty quickly.

Another article...this portion I don't like...

http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060118/BUSINESS/601180363/-1/NEWS01

Still, in some cases of Greenie-related deaths, S&M NuTec has offered to pay veterinary bills and the cost to replace a dog, Hanson said, confirming accounts from pet owners. The company also has asked owners to sign agreements requiring that all parties keep the matter confidential and releasing the company from legal liability.

Seems like every day there is yet another article on Greenies. Boy this couple is REALLY getting the word out. Are you all tired of me posting these links?

JMHO- I don't think your changing any minds. Most people on the board decided to ban Greenies in their home when they first heard about the dachshund that died from an undigested piece. Maybe you could make it a sticky so new members can learn about it.

I could read hundreds of stories, but that doesn't erase the fact that my dogs have been enjoying them for at least 2 years without any ill effect.

It's kinda like knowing that driving fast kills people, or not wearing your seatbelt kills you. You keep on doing it till you get caught, and even then all you do is slow down when you see a cop and wish they'd be out taking care of the real criminals.
(I wear my seat belt, but drive fast when I can)

I mean we stopped feeding greenies pretty much after we started as Chief cannot tolerate wheat, however, after reading Burt's story and then MANY MANY more similar ones coming out to tell their story, including vets findings regarding greenies...I could NOT in good conscience feed them ---their are SO many other treats that have not had incidences like this that Chief and other dogs can love just as much. Here is Burt's Story with a blog, the law suit etc. for those who want to read it ...don't remember whether or not this was ever posted but new posts to the blog are constantly being added.

I think I'm the sole greenies giver left here. I normally give them each one a day, appropriately sized (petite for Austin, Grrrt and Otto, regular for Dolly and large for Buddy) and they enjoy them for about 20 minutes. Never had a barf pile, poop pile or any other sign of negative reaction to them. If the greenies weren't so danged expensive, they'd get them more often.
I'm secretly hoping the company has to sell them off at a big fat discount. 25 bucks a week (average) gets quite spendy just for dog treats:shocked: and that doesn't even include the Milkbones, snausages, rawhides, and pizzle sticks.
