And people can afford to eat in NY too?

I just spent 250.00 at the grocery store and Walmart. I almost :faint: when the totals came up. I can't imagine paying that kind of money to live somewhere.

Yep. I remember when Jen was looking to buy a house up in her neck of the woods and was  at the comparison. But I think Tres (Anatresia) in northern NY is a bit better off? At least real estate wise maybe.

My Aunt in South Hamilton, Ma said my house in her neck of the woods would run 3xs what we are paying down here :sosad:

On Long Island, my cost of living is a less than it would be in New York City, but still high. A lot of people here don't have much left after paying rent or mortgage. I'm a bankruptcy lawyer and I've handled bankruptcies for people who have pretty good salaries and were not just spending foolishly. They just didn't have anything for a rainy day.

Our co-op board balked at our income a bit--we assured them we live simply. Cause we're paying 1/2 our take home pay per month in mortgage and maintenance. Houses and duplexes in our neighborhood, 60 min from Midtown, go for $600,000 on up. One bedroom apartments are $200,000 on up to buy.

We were so scared the board would want to interview Tasha before the approved us. They didn't. But the things those Manhattan boards were asking are crazy! What dog doesn't bark at the phone and doorbell? :duh:
