Feds: Millions have eaten chickens fed tainted pet food
POSTED: 1:26 p.m. EDT, May 2, 2007

"Animal feed tainted with recalled pet food was found in chicken feed on 38 Indiana farms, the FDA said."

NEW YORK (CNN) -- People have eaten millions of chickens that were given feed tainted with recalled pet food, federal officials said Tuesday, though they said the threat to human health is minimal.

The announcement came after an investigation of chicken farms in Indiana found that 38 of the facilities had given contaminated feed to poultry raised for human consumption, and that 2.5 million to 3 million people ate them.

The officials added that they expect to discover that chickens on possibly hundreds of farms in other states were also given tainted feed.

I kind of expected this. I am looking into buying a case of "all-natural" chicken for my diggity dogs. Better anyway in the long run!

It is Buddy's All-Natural Chicken...

And I am going to buy it from Bone-Affied Nutrition. A case (40 lb) of thighs is $60.

Thank you! We may end up eating ours out of the coop, before this is all over. (That's not too bad a price, either.)

Geez. I guess I'll keep Tasha on Venison or rabbit for the time being!

It's complicated for me to buy from that supplier (they are far away from me!) and so I called Whole Foods today to see what they had. They sell Bell & Evans chicken - http://www.bellandevans.com/ - and are able to sell me a case (40 lbs) of thighs for $64. $1.60 a lb for chicken thighs is pretty darn steep, but you can't put a price on the dogs' health and it's not going to break the bank for me. It will be much more convenient for me to go to Whole Foods and pick this up as well!

I eat Bell and Evans when I eat chicken. Good stuff!

Our store only has Tyson products, but the beef is local Angus, guess they will be sticking with the beef but would be a good idea to nix the boiled chicken broth and use broth from boiled beef. Sheeesh WILL it EVER END!! :sosad:

I have heard that Tyson and one other brand are the only companies that use US feed and by products for their produce. It was on CNN or their site I think. Anyway, gotta take what you hear and read and pray that it's the truth nowadays  I can't give up my chicken................
