Sorry for taking so long to post this morning. My brother didn't bring him until I got back from dropping off Calvin for his Neutering. When I saw him it was love at first sight. He is a mini! Also infested with alot of fleas. He is a little on the skinny side.He was scared at first but is really getting along nicely now.He inhaled his food at breakfast.I took him a flea bath and sprayed his hair with meds and sprayed my carpet they are just falling off with the spray now.He had this flea collar on that was so tight! Can you believe my bro's gf made him live outside? Chloe is fine with him here. The puppers are playing with him.He even made himself comfortable on the pee pads.I had to explain that it was not a bed.I showed him where he could snuggle and he loved it.He is really smart.I said treat and all my guys fell in line and so did he.I need to set a vet appt for tomorrow cause his ears seem to be bothering him.I hope he doesnt have anything seriously wrong with him. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c183/MYDACHSHUNDS/CIMG5103.jpg

What a handsome addition :hearts: I'm in :love5: again.
:congrats: again Erika! And :thankyou: for opening up your heart and home to him :rowofhts: :heart1: :rowofhts:
Oh Erika, he's a doll!! The ears could be an infection, or ear mites. Tasha had a terrible ear infection when we adopted her, and scarring from untreated ones as a puppy.
Let us know what the Vet says!
And good luck doing battle with the fleas!!

Oooohhhh :hearts: :hearts: I'm just green with envy. I'm so happy you got to save him from a life of an "outside" dog. I totally reject that notion. I'd sooner have an "outside" child than an "outside" dog.
You RULE!
:hearts: What a cutie!! Chocolate always makes ya feel better!!! Congrats!!
Erika- thank you so much for opening your heart and home to this boy. Outside indeed! Glad the bro's gf had the decency to let him come live with you in doxie heaven!

This is hard but I'd tell her that since she doesn't have a "home" for him and that he needs vet care that you are willing and able to do this for him. Make it about what's best for Chocolate not what is best for her. Ask her how much time she is able to spend with him? Brush him, bath him, walk him? Let her think about how she isn't able to do that for him and then hope she let's you keep him.
Either that lock all the windows and doors and don't answer when she comes by.

You could lie. Tell her that you didn't want it to come to this, but your vet contacted animal control about the condition of the dog (flea infestation and tight collar) and they wanted to press charges against her, but you talked them out of it, as long as you could keep the dog. Tell her that you'll keep him until the family gets back on their feet again, and that really, this is the best for the dog.
See if you can find something that outlines the cost of a dog for a year to discourage her and tell her how much more beer and cigarettes (or fast food, whatever else floats her boat) she could be purchasing if she didn't have the dog around.
Use your best salesmanship you can muster to talk her out of wanting that dog back.
Take a knife and flatten the tires on her hoopty car. ;)

Oh, Erika! :( I would just make it about what's best for Chocolate, like the others have said. He's got lots of friends, plenty of human contact, a stable home, immediate vet attention, etc. I hope it all works out! :crossfin: Keep us updated.
Erika, god bless you! He's one lucky pupper to have you as his new mutter. Thanks for posting the pics, you made my day! :hearts:

Good on you, Erika!! :angel7: he's lucky to have found you!!! ITA with what the others have said...maybe you can enlist your brother to help out with talking to her? It might help too if she knows she can come visit him. But NO little dogs (I'd even go so far as to say NO dogs period) should have to live outside by themselves. Breaks my heart just to think of it! :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for your vet visit. Great pix by the way...I especially love the one of your puppers checking out the new guy eating!
You go girl!!! :appl: :appl:
Let us know what happens!

He is a cutie pie!! I agree with everybody else that you shouldn't give him back and do what is best for him, if she let him get this bad off in the first place, she will just do it over and over until she kills him! Just lay a guilt trip on her.

I wouldn't give him back, it costs money for ear infections and to treat fleas, let her know about how much and see if she can come up with the money.

Somewhere in the middle, between pages, I read Otto'sMom's ans. where she told you to lie, & being 61 yrs. of age, AND always getting caught when I've done that at any age, I thought, "Oh well, she probablly shouldn't do that cuz if she gets caught, there goes the relationship w/the brother, but now, I'm upset! You CANNOT let him go back. Have your husband intervene; tell HIM to talk to your brother and say that he has not been taken care of correctly up to now, you've taken him in, bathed him, deflead him & set an appt. for the vet to be EVERYTHING! IF you have to, hide him out for tonight, until he sees the vet tomorrow. IF you feel strongly enough about this issue to go to War with your brother, (& I would, believe me), the bottom line here is: She GAVE you the dog; if push comes to pull, she can SUE to get it back! The H_ _ _ with her - - she's got him living in the damned back yard. I don't do that to my Rottweillers in the winter & we live on a 40 acre farm! AND it's in No. Calif. We have rain, but it never gets below 50 degrees here! Keep us posted.
AND NOW, for the good part, Erika: He is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. He is so darned happy to be there, lining up for treats with your puppers & using the pee pee pad. She is NOT to get him back, under ANY conditions - - end of story.

If nothing else report the GF for abuse & neglect. Under no circumstances would I let her have him back.
No dachshund should ever be forced to live "outside". He is in horrible shape, under-weight, flea infested & his ears are a mess.

THis is what I get for not reading the whole story. I agree- lie - hide him- whatever it takes. I'm a notary - want me to send a notarized statement of his condition?? Would she fall for it?? He cannot go back - Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

All right here is update for today. He is staying the night cause "I said so"!It just became that time of the month so I am in no mood for peoples crap!My brother is behind me 100%.He knows how I feel about the whole situation and is on my side.He could care less about Gf(baby's mama).I haven't liked her since I met her but have been on good terms with her cause of bro. This could end my niceness with her though.I am determined not to let her have him.If push comes to shove this is the result:fight: I tell you so much drama going on!

If you take him to the vet he might even put it in his record that the little guy was neclected. If she is reported she could loose him.

Erika: You are simply my hero. Thank you for standing up for what you believe and what's right for this little guy.
If she threatens to sue you, remind her that lawyers cost more money than she has.
I didn't want to say "just lie", but dang it, desperate times call for desperate measures. Keep it simple and stick to it. Stay strong, and I'm glad your bro is on your side.:hearts: and :bighug: to you and Chocolate.

Oh no! He is a beautiful pup and I am so sorry you both are going through this! I would tell her straight out that she's been neglecting him and if she insists on taking him back you will report her for neglect. It's really a good thing that your brother is on chocolates side! Maybe he can talk some sense into the gf?

I'm telling you, Erika, just stand your ground! She gave you the dog; now she would like him back! Oh, I don't think SO! She can have him back WHEN the Judge awards the dog to her. In the meantime, take him to the vet; have him neutuered if not already done, have his teeth done (at least inspected) have his nails trimmed, spare no expense. Take him to a groomer; tell her you've already run up a $300.00 bill on him! And tell her you just aren't going to put up with this wishy-washy BS from her! Tell her you've already talked to the local shelter & she didn't have a doghouse, etc. for him & was keeping him outside. In some areas, (at least on Animal Planet), that's a crime; they HAVE to have shelter for them & it cannot be a cardboard box. I would just hold my ground! Tell DH to interfere - tell them you're crying; you couldn't even talk last night, etc. Out-drama the B! Period! End of Story! You're a tough girl, Erika; I think you can hold your own on this. He is NOT going back. Who in the H_ _ _ does she think she is! Oh, I think I've changed my mind. Oh, I - don't think so!! Damn - now I have to find something to eat! LOL - [Tell me you're a Leo, Erika, I'm pretty sure you are!] GAY

What a cutie! I bet he's happy to have a warm place to stay at night. I'll never understand why people get a dog and then keep them outside all the time. Why bother having one?
I hope the vet visit goes well!!

Ericka, I was in a similar situation but I did give Bella back. AFTER I had her spayed and almost trained. Now when I see her, she is healthy and loved, but, OMG, that dog is NOT potty trained. It KILLS me! My family and I had done so good with her!
:appl: to you for taking in Chocolate! I know it's hard to take one in and then be confronted with having to give them back.
