This is just awful!!, I Hope the poor dog is not put down because of this, however, if I were the parents, I don't think that I could keep the dog, it would remind me day in and day out what happened to my child. The family must be in total agony at this point. I can't even imagine this happening to my family. I would go insane for sure!!!.

I hope they can re-home the dog to a loving family, the dog did not do this to be mean, and he should not be killed because of what happened. He was just being a playful Golden...

How sad,,,

My husband told me this yesterday. It's a local story for us.

I saw that on the news too (I get to watch the New York local news on the ship) and as bad as I felt for the family and girl, all I could think about was "I wonder what they're going to do with the dog?" I mean, she died playing with a dog she obviously loved. Just 2 days after her 6th birthday too. Truly tragic.

Thank goodness that Jessy is safe. I feel terrible for the family but it really isn't the dogs fault. It's a good thing that she'll find a new home far away. My sister lives near the city and she saw this story on the news. She only caught half the story though and told me she heard about a golden retriever killing a little girl. I was wondering what happened. I've never heard of goldens being vicious. What a tragic accident :(

Its very tragic, and right in the town next to mine. In fact there has been alot of people wanting to adopt the dog, including my girlfriends co-worker. I wonder though what not in the area means? Long Island is not that big to begin with.
