Prickles T. Hog, Aug. 21, 2001 - Feb. 21, 2008

It's very hard to write this, but our spiny little girl has passed away.

I woke up on my birthday with a temperature of 101 and body aches. John decided to stay home from work to take me to the doctor as I tend to get very dizzy when I'm sick and I can't drive. Well, the appointment was in the afternoon so John left me downstairs to rest with the wiener dogs while he went upstairs to work on some laundry and stuff.

Around 1:30 I woke up and went upstairs to see what John was doing because we had to leave for the doctor. He was asleep in our bed snuggled up with Prickles. So, I woke him up and that is when he discovered that Prickles had passed away in her sleep. She was laying on her side just like she was asleep, but she would not wake up.

Needless to say, it's been a tough day. She gave no indication that anything was wrong this morning. John said he played with her and she was just like she always was. I guess snuggled up with her daddy was her way of saying "Thanks for a wonderful life, but it is time for me to go."

She was 6 years and 6 months old to the day. Here she is on August 21, 2007 - her 6th birthday:

Prickles was our first pet together and we got her when she was a little hoglet. We lived in an apartment that didn't allow cats or dogs, so I suggested we get a hedgehog. John had spikey hair back then and I called him Hedgehog. We found Prickles in a pet store and she was an angry little hog. I was actually scared to pick her up, but John worked with her and she became the nicest hedgehog. Whenever we took her to the vet, they'd always comment that she was the friendliest hedgehog they've ever seen.

Oh, T, NO! I am so sorry sweetie. I had never had any exposure to hedgies before Prickles either and grew to love her- the photo tribute was wonderful and I think you are the only peron I know who had a hog in her wedding...

She truly was a special part of your family, and ours here too. I am sorry she's passed but glad you had her in your life.... hugs to you and John and the weens... life surely will not be the same.

Oh Tanya, I'm so sorry. To be so ill and then to lose Prickles (not to mention on your birthday) what an awful day. The only good thing is that Prickles went gently, in her sleep with those she loved close by. Who can ask for anything more? :hug99: :hug99:

What a sad day in the DLC world. I had only seen hedgies on tv and had almost zero knowledge of them. Through the years Miss Prickles educated me, made me laugh and allowed me to share with my new knowledge with the kids in my park.

She was so friggin cool! I am so sorry you don't have her in your life, but she will always be in your heart. The cool thing is that she had such a wonderful life and got to pass peacefully that the Rainbow bridge will be even a brighter place with her spirit there. Mistreated animals will see her and get to see how good life can be and have hope in mankind. You did such a good job being her parents. Her soul is a happy glowing one.

I'm in tears! So sorry for you loss. I know it might not help you, but my daddy passed away 13 yrs. ago on the 21st, so he was there waiting for our Lil Prickles!! And here is a picture in honor of her, because she was the inspiration for it!!
