View Full Version : If you feed the raw medallions....Come in!
What are your dogs stats (weight, age, activity level)
How many medallions do you feed per day?
Bailey - 11.4lbs, 1.5 years and active
Reese - 13.7lbs, 3.4 years and moderately active
I just started with giving them 2.5 each.
I think I will switch them to Bailey 3 and Reese 2
Pogo - almost 5 years old is 20 lbs & is a slug and gets 3 medallions (1 breakfast & 2 dinner)
Pixel - is 2 years old is 11 lbs. & is moderate activity and also gets 3 per day.
I am seriously thinking about dropping them both to 2 per day because Pixel can lose a pound and Pogo can lose 2.

I feed medallions to my two with weight problems because you can get a very controlled portion. The others I feel the patties and just eyeball the amount. Keep in mind that these two do have weight problems and get some other treats.
Bogart 1/2 medallion twice a day 12 lbs, 13 years old, couch potato
Cash 1/2 medallion twice a day 15 lbs, about 6 years old, moderately active

Casey and Sophie still get Nature's Variety Kibble in the morning 1/4 cup
In the evening Casey age 1 1/2 (18 pounds-standard) gets 3 medallions ---very active
Sophie age 4 or 5 (should be 12 pounds but is 16 and now after the prednisone I swear, just by lifting her, she is 18 pounds!--mini i'm told but i think tweenie) gets 2 medallions.--total couch potato
I mix veggies and low fat cottage cheese in with the medallions.
They only like the beef or chicken/turkey medallions.
I posted this thread because I was interested to see where I was in regards to what others were feeding. According to the interactive chart on the NV website, Bailey should get 6oz a day and Reese about 5oz. So, since I was still doing the EVO in the morning, I cut that in half.
Am I feeding too much?

Jill,
Go back to the Nature's Vareity web site and where to calculate how much to give your pupperz.
Put in 50 % Dry and 50 % Raw and see what they tell you to give.
www.naturesvariety.com
Step 1 - Select canine or feline
Step 2 - Select current weight of dog or puppy .
Step 3 - Select your pet’s activity level
Total couch potato Not active Moderate activity Active Never stops Lactating moms Puppies < 50% of adult weight Puppies 50-80% of adult weight Puppies 80%+ adult weight
Step 4 - Select type of food you feed or would like to feed
Here you will select: select a percentage of each type of food
It should then tell you how much dry and raw you should be feeding the boys
Bailey
Dry
Chicken: 5/8 of a cup
Raw
3.0 oz.
Reese
Dry
Chicken: 1/2 of a cup
Raw
2.2 oz.
I am only feeding 1/8 of a cup, along with 1.4oz of wet food in the morning and then the Raw is at night.
I would think it's too much....but it really is related to their activity and metabolic level. I would weigh them once a week and if they go up, reduce the amount if they go down increase the amount of food.

Yep, what Lisa said. Those guidelines aren't going to be right for every dog. If they get fatter, cut back. If they look good, keep it the same!

Heidi- 12.8lbs
Solid Gold Kibble in the morning- doesn't eat much of it,
3 medallions at night
Princess 9.4lbs
Solid Gold Kibble in the morning, doesn't eat much of it either
2 medallions at night..
I think I will have to start weighing them now, and measure out the kibble
right now I just but the bowl down and they eat a few here and there in the morning, but seem to be waiting now for the RAW meal at night,
Heidi has learned to do a spinning dance at night now,, she just gets so excited when she sees me taking the bag out of the freezer. Both of them act as if they are in heaven!!

Gigi is 2 years old. 11lbs. Moderately active (I am the one who is lazy!).
Morning 1/3 cup of Royal Canine Dachshund kibbles
Dinner: 2 medallions
And she does get treats for training
According to the website, Gigi can have 4 oz of raw medallions.
