I will update this any time I have more news, or if I don't have any news.....I'll update with that too.

It is 8:42 am in Austin, TX. Jax is comfortable, but sad. That's what the vet tech just told me when I called. They took him out to potty this morning, and he pooped on his own, but they had to express his bladder by hand. He was peeing on his own yesterday.......

He will go into surgery as soon as the Dr. arrives this morning (I'm thinking that should be around 9 am or so ????). They didn't give me a time.

I am not calling John with the update I just got. I don't think that he could handle hearing that his boy is sad and about his needing help to pee......

I will post as soon as they call me when he is out of surgery.

I like the title. Official Jax Surgery Thread. :D

Don't call John! Don't tell him. Poor guy is so upset now about his little man.

Let us know as soon as you hear something. I know it won't be for a while because they'll have to do the surgery and then wait for him to wake up.

:hug99: :hug99: :hug99: He'll be just fine. You've been such a good doxie mom and whether he believes it or not John has been a good doxie dad. :D

The dye procedure and the surgery together shouldn't take more than about an hour and a half. 2 hours max. They are supposed to call as soon as they take the tube out of his throat that they use during surgery. I'm hoping to hear something by noon, but who knows......

Sending :bighug: and :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: I'll be anxiously awaiting updates. Dodgerslist is excellent. A few years back we had a doxie in the 'hood who had had surgery and they towel walked him--back legs in a towel sling, front legs walking. I'm sure that was after recovery time though. Eventually he walked on his own no problem, but with a cute wobble.

I'm sorry this is a little late, I just got home (long day!). I did leave a message on Mama's cell phone.....I guess she didn't get it  .

Jax made it through surgery just fine. He has already regained bladder control. I swear I have never been so happy to hear that a dog could pee!:cheer3:

We get to pick Jax up from the surgical center tomorrow at 9:30 am and transport him to the e-vet that will care for him until Dr. Caplan releases him to go home (tomorrow being a holiday requires a transport for 24 hour care). I'm so glad that we will get to spend a little bit of time with our boy.

Thank ya'll SO much for all of the :bigrayz: s and support!!! I really means the world to me (and the little :patty: too!)

If the doctor is Eileen Caplan she is a great doctor, I have her on my journal that I keep from dodgerslist-lots of people use her. She also has the best prices.
Michelle ended up paying $4,300 for Chapo's surgery.

Ok, next update......we picked Jax up this morning and transported him out to the e-vet that will care for him for about the next 48 hours. If he continues to do well, then we can bring him home sometime Sunday. On Monday, he will go back to see Dr. Caplan, and if she likes what she sees, then he will be cleared to come home on 6-8 weeks of crate rest with a little prednisone, and some pain killers and an antibiotic to prevent infection. I have 2 pics, but they are in my cell phone as I was not smart enough to remember to take the camera.......

I'll post again when I know more. My mom is in town this weekend, and we may go visit him at the e-vet tomorrow. If so, I will try to remember to take the camera.

UPDATE!!!!! Jax gets to come home today!!!!!:cheer3: :cheer3: :cheer3:

I think he's driving the e-vets nuts. He chewed through his iv line.........which means he's now on all oral meds, which turns out to be a good thing. The e-vet (who is SUPER nice) is pretty sure he's peeing on his own, but she said she will show me how to express him just in case.

He will still go back to see Dr. Caplan on Monday to be "officially" released. But our boy gets to come home!

Thanks Z! I think we're ok for now just moving his crate into the bedroom at night and keeping it in the living room during the day. I will let you know if that doesn't work though.......

Jax is now at home!!!! He is resting in his create.....ok, he's licking at his paw where his iv went. That's my boy :).

The best news.....he came out from the back at the e-vet.....

ON A LEASH!!!:cheer3: :cheer3: :cheer3: :cheer3:

Yep, he is up and walking! And he peed by himself at the e-vet, and by himself when we got him home! (We have the x-pen (THANK YOU ZANDRA!) set up in the back yard-not fully extended, so he can potty)

I have some pics......warning though, there is a pic of his incision, and it's kinda gross.

I, Jax, is back in da box....

Jax is spending today (hopefully only the first half of the day) back at Dr. Caplan's office. That's who did the surgery. She just wants to see how he's doing. I hope he shows her how well he's walking (I need to see if I can video that at home and put it on here.....). And he is most definitely going potty all by himself!:cheer3:

I will update when we have official instructions as to how long he'll be on crate rest, and recommended physical therapy.
