Sheila Trecartin, the animal communicator, recently sent me the link to this article she wrote. It does a great job of explaining animals' perception of death.

In fact, the whole website is wonderful for anyone dealing with the loss of a pet.

Wow, Lins. Thanks for posting that. It made me cry, but was very helpful to me to really know that Bogart and Sweetums and running free and are happy.

I've always known that dogs are much more accepting of death and had a better understanding than we do. I've always let the other dogs around the one that was dying so that they knew just what was happening and I believe that they do know. I've also noticed that they don't seem bothered by one of dogs passing. Their real concern has always seemed to be for the humans and they work very hard at comforting us after we lose one of their number.

I agree that they are much more aware of what's going on than we are! Duchie picks up on every nuance of my mood... and she KNOWS when I am "faking happy"
