Irma called me and they are in Tuscan...it's a really good place and they are most prob. going to do surgery on Gunner...they are doing some bloodwork and the diagnostic tests (Myelogram/CT/ not sure what) and then they will proceed.
Irma wanted me to ask everyone to pray for Gunner. She's very worried of course and I am sure could use some prayers and :bigrayz: for herself as well.

Yes, me too. They will do whatever it takes to get him better. She said she'd call me later with another update and I will let you all know as soon as I can.

Irma called and he is in surgery now. He has two bad discs...she couldn't remember if they said they were herniated or what..one sounds like it is lumbar, the other lower thoractic ( it seems to me). The surgeon gave them a 50-50 chance that Gunner would recover completely.
So more :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: and prayers are needed..
Irma says her husband is very distraught and discouraged so he could use some :bigrayz: as well I think.
I'm hoping the surgeon is being pessimistic (as they often are) and he will do really well. I think Irma is going home tonight as they said they couldn't visit him after surgery anyway so perhaps we will hear from her later.

:bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: and prayers for all of them!
It looks like an amazing facility and he will get great care.
Yeah, we couldn't see Pogo until he was released. They gave Pogo 50/50 going into surgery and once the surgery was over, they gave him 90% chance of a full recovery, with a possibility of another disk blowing since once you have IVDD there is always a maybe (or maybe not!!)
Damn poorly engineered dogs that we adore so much! Ooodles of Gunner rayz. :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz:
Hugs to Irma and her hubby through this stressful time. :hug99: :hug99: :hug99: :hug99: :hug99:
OMG - I sure hope they are being very pessimistic too.... but Irma and hubby will deal with what is thrown at them.... and lucky for Gunner, they will !!! So very scary... Sending tons of :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for Gunner to get through the surgery, :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for dad and lots of :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :hug99: :hug99: for Irma and all the family. Thanks for the update Amy -
How far are they away from Tucson?

I've been off line all day. Thanks for keeping us updated, Amy. And for being there for Irma. I'm sure that just having someone to talk to was a big help.
Men can be such wimps and so doom and gloom. The DH kept saying that Amanda "would never be the same" after her surgery. She wasn't the same but so what? She was able to walk and run and be a dog and was perfectly happy with her life. I hate negative people. Hopefully, Irma's hubby will come around. :crossfin: :crossfin:
Sending tons of :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: and    for Gunner and Irma and her hubby.

I think he was just scared and upset. Gunner is his baby boy :)
The 50/50 odds scared him and it woulda scared me too.

(((sigh))) Our little ones. :ditto: what Lisa said about them just not being engineered right. Many :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for Gunner and :hug99: for Irma.
I don't think my DH gets the risk of the back issues or why I get so upset when they twist around or when we go to his parents and everyone just lets them get wildly excited & jumping on and off the furniture. He says, "if it's going to happen, it will happen eventually whatever they do." Maybe. But I think he doesn't fully understand the magnitude of what could happen and how hard it will be to handle!! If he did, I think he would be just a little more cautious.
I agree, the distraught is just from having to see your boy go through all this, both Rafi and I were a mess. Second guessing everything we could have done that my have lead to this over 7 years of his life. We always thought we did everything by the book, did we make any mistakes? The love would be the same, I think it is just the what ifs that drive you batty.
