Our cousin made the difficult decision today to help her doxie/mix Chance to the bridge.
Chance was a wonderful companion to her. He was with her for 15 years and overcame so much. He fought and won against heart worm when he was a pup, was mauled by racoons and survived and fought a long hard battle with cancer. The vet gave him a poor diagnosis two years ago, but he hung on to help his humom send her only two legged son off to college. Chance let her cry on his back when her son packed up and moved away, and has been there for her break ups and heartaches.
She is hurting so bad right now. But knows that he's off running and playing and can eat and drink without any help now. According to the vet, it was only a matter of days before he started refusing food and water completey. She couldn't do that to him. To allow him to waste away would be too cruel for such a fighter.
Chance is in a good place now.
RIP, buddy. You'll be missed for a long, long time.
