We went to a CPE trial this weekend...went friday night to our favorite Motel 6 and trialed Sat. and Sun.
It was really fun. Mostly :) Owen Weenie once again did NOT get his Standard runs which he needs for his C-ATCH 3. I don't care a lot but I want him to get it cuz he will be the only dachshund with a c-atch 3....
He did NOT jump the contacts on the dogwalk and a-frame!!!! Whooohoooo! I was soooo happy except he jumped off the teeter instead. O Owen...
Both he and Salsa did two distance gambles (where there is a line the handler can not cross so the dogs do the obstacles at a distance from you) One was very hard..the first hard one Salsa has ever done successfully. I was sooo proud to see my little ones do that...when a lot of the big dogs were unable too (distance is easier for big dogs as their stride is so much longer it's easier for them to get farther away!! But some things are easier for little dogs...like doing a tight technical course or having to turn quickly)
Salsa was very much interested in doing every tunnel she could. Ones that were not on course....she will NOT be called off them...I gotta practice that I guess!!! But she's sooo cute. She even stopped dead, turned around, and did a tunnel again that she just did..while I continued in the other direction! It didn't matter cuz it was a run where you make your own course in the opening but it was quite unexpected. She qualified in 8 of 10 runs :) Owey 2 of 4, Laika 4 out of 4. Laika is no longer content with one run so kindly the owner of the club lets me see the maps ahead of time so I can choose a run she can do safely (no contacts or weaves) Luckily CPE has a lot of games where you can chose your own obstacles (for points) during at least part of the game so I can usually find something good for my Laika.

I really really really like CPE. I love the games. I love running a lot of runs...there are usually 5 runs a day...I love that I can jump my dogs at 4 inches...I love that there are so many different breeds there as well as mixed breeds...I love that their attitude is to have fun with your dogs...

It sounds like a lot of work and a lot of fun. Complicated, too, for my poor little brain.
