Emma threw up her dinner on Wednesday night, which I guess isn't a completely unusual thing for dogs to do from time to time. Once I cleaned it up, she seemed really pleased with herself.
She didn't eat much the next day, but was drinking water and going to the bathroom. She was a little lethargic, but still playful. Very much Emma.
Friday morning she ate most of her food and gave me lots of kisses. I left for work, came back to take them out around 10am, and they were both fine. I went to help my cousin move and came back around 6pm or so. She wouldn't eat her kibble, so I tried some cheese with little success.
Emma has had teeth problems before, so I checked and sure enough, she had an inflamed tooth. She was shaking, obviously uncomfortable, so I held her on the floor for a bit and then took her to the E-Vet down the road. Her tooth was inflamed, but even worse was that she had some metal something in her belly.
So at about 10pm I signed the papers for surgery to get the metal whatever out. It was going to be a 2 day ordeal, so I came home.
I just got a call at about 1am and her insides are ate up with cancer. Multiple organs, tumors blocking her digestive system... It's unlikely that even if all of that gunk could be removed that it would stay gone, and it would be a very difficult life. I was on the phone with the doctor with her on the table, and given how bad things were and how poor her chances would be, I decided to have her put to sleep.
It's painful, but she was in so much pain today. When we were in the vet's office during the consultation, she was shaking and drooling and kept giving me a lot of sugars and was just sitting in my lap. She's never wanted to be in my lap for more than 30 seconds.
When Cy was sick, I was sick too and I didn't take him to the vet. I didn't imagine that he was as bad off as he was because he was kind of lazy for lack of a better term (:rotfl:). With Emma though, if she's not on her back demanding a belly rub, something is up.
So anyway, Emma is either gone or will be within minutes. She was the best dog I've ever had or seen in my life. She had just the right amount of sass and just the right about of snuggle-ability. Goodbye, pretty girl.
