View Full Version : I made collars!

Since we moved, both dogs have had to wear their collars at all times. Even though they are crated when I'm gone now, people could theoretically come in at any time (maintenance, managers) and if they should get out, I'd have to hope someone checked their microchips.

Anyway, the collars they had are really nice, but really stiff. They just seemed like they would hurt sometimes, you know? So I decided to make them some new, softer collars.

Bailey's collar is very slightly adjustable, Piper's is not. I was just playing with the two styles to see how they worked. They aren't reinforced at all because these are simply tag holders. Both dogs are walked on martingale style collars for safety, so these will never attach to a leash.

They are soft, I like them, and they match! 30 minutes well spent.

They are fantastic! What was your method & where did you get the hardware? I've been thinking about making some for Jasper & Lili.

I took hardware from old collars. I have a lot that the dogs won't ever wear and are really not in a condition to donate anywhere.

I am pretty good at just looking at something and figuring it out, so that's how I did it. Sorry its not more clear! There are tons of instructions online though, just google it.

You can usually buy the hardware at a Joann Fabrics or Hobby Lobby.

Very Nice!

I tried a hand at making a collar using the peices of an old collar once.

This is the site I found to help me make it:

Here is a great site to buy new hardware:

Bayley and Braydi want to know if their Auntie Linsey would make them adorable collars too, if their mommy will send the supplies. :)

I can finally see the pics! Love them... and that should be a sewing project that I doubt I can screw up. If I do I'll not I should never take up trying to sew again... :rotfl:

Great job! Those are really nice! My dogs, Peavey and the Chi's all walk on harnesses. They only wear collars to carry tags as well.
