A friend of ours has a dachsie that had disc problems that just started to happen in the last while. She has been taking her for therapy, and I also gave her the links to dodger's list and all the other links that were posted at the top of this forum. She can walk, but occasionally freezes up or goes down in the back.

My husband told me that something unusual is happening with her. I expected him to say her mom was looking into a cart or she was losing control of her bladder, but he says - and i forget the word - but its almost like her insides are coming out. Her rear end has opened up a little bit and its like her intestines are dropping.

I have not seen the pup lately to tell you first hand, but never heard of this happen before.

She will take her to the vets of course, but does anyone have any idea what could be happening for my own dacshie knowledge or to pass on to her? This has all just happened "all the sudden".

The word i am looking for is not "distended"...shoot....what it is?

Thanks for the good vibes. It sounded really scarey from what he described.

I wonder if it could be because the nerves around her little rear end aren't working and therefore the muscles have become slack? I've never heard of this either; Maxe had IVDD, but I was able to manage it after her first big attack at 6, so was VERY fortnunate never to have to deal with downer issues...:bigrayz: :bigrayz: for the little girl. I'd be interested to hear what the vet has to say about it!

I've never heard of that, but anything is possible.
I'm just guessing but could it be a rectal prolapse?

Or if she is not spayed it could be uterine prolapse.

I would have her join the Dodgerslist forum and ask the members there.
It is important she see a specialist soon.... like yesterday!

That sounds really scary. No advice, other than get that dog to the Vet asap! :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for the pup!

could also be a hemorrhoid...
I don't have any personal experience with this in dogs but had a human friend with (if I recall correctly) a uterine prolapse which was surgically repaired and she did fine. So tell your friend not to panic, but yes a vet visit is definitely in order! Rayz for the pupper :rayz::rayz::rayz::bigrayz:

Prolapse! That's the word!

She is spayed so it wouldn't be uterine.

That makes a lot of sense. The poor baby. :sad3: It makes me very sad. It seems like she is going through a lot all the sudden. Thank goodness my boys are healthy (aside from Al being a little chunky which we are working on)

I am very upset and sad to say, that the little girl lost her fight. She declined very rapidly all the sudden and the vet felt there was nothing more that could be done. She was not a candidate for a cart apparently either.
