Its been worrying me that I don't have a Vet for Tasha in the new hood--though there's an emegency clinic a few blocks away. This weekend I met another doxie owner in the hood and asked her where she takes her dogs. There were two places, I looked them up, one is one man practice and Tasha does better with women. Here's the other, run by two vets and a social worker! The offer regular care, rehab, hospice, and sound like they understand and nuture the bond between human/non-human animals.

Any opinions? Come on gals and guys, I know people have lots of opinions around here!! Take a look at the site and tell me what you think, please!

WOW, I really love that they call it a "new parenting class!" The two main vets are females, which is great in case one is off on vacation, and you can see which one Tasha likes better.

It sounds like a really great place Jen. How are they price wise?

What caught me is this 'a roof garden for contemplation, and counseling for those needing support with illness or the loss of a pet.'

Sounds like they really understand the bond. :appl: Have you had a chance to go by there and check them out yourself?

I think I'll stop by on Sat and take a look in person. I doubt they're more expensive than Tasha's last Vet which was $80 for an office visit! :faint:

I really like what they say on the website, let's hope they can back it up with their actions and the quality of their care!!

wowsercats- 7 day a week office hours will really cut down on the "emergency" stuff.

Aside from a handful of typos on the website I think they look great.
I like it that they realize we are parents, and that they have hydrotherapy and hospice.

They also pointed out that they want to equip parents from beginning to end, so they are long term minded.

and they don't give feral cats the big sleep. gotta love that.

Also what i think is great is that they involved in adoption. One gal i met who had a beautiful registered long haired girl told me her vet said she "SHOULD" breed her because of her looks. IMHO, i don't think any vet should put a bug in someone's ear to breed a dog because she's pretty. They should promote spaying her.

Our Manhattan Vet always had dogs and cats in need of homes that they'd taken in.

Rae, the website sure does need a proofreader or at least a spell check! But I'm so used to bad spelling and grammar on the web, people just don't take the time, even on some news sites!

This looks and sounds like a great place, definitely visit and meet all of the staff. Your previous vet charged $80. for an OV/Exam?? Mine charges $44. and I thought that was high. Let us know how it goes. :)

AP had an ad for a new Vet Center in Newbury, NY which really looked nice and you could even spend the night with your pet if needed. I don't know if that would be close to you though.

Guess I'll never complain about being charged $18 for an OV! and half if I bring in more than one guy at a time!

$18 for an office visit!! OMG. My vet is $50, but all their other services are very, very reasonably priced. I took Napoleon in to recheck bloodwork/urine and they only charged me to test for the values we were checking - so $5 for the urinalysis and like $24 for the blood...I was very happy about that as I was expecting to pay the full $70 or so!

It looks like a super place to me (typos notwithstanding :) ) I really like the whole life thing, especially the hospice part. If it's not horribly expensive, I'd be there in a flash!

I'm also really amazed at the wide range of prices people are paying for routine stuff! I long ago gave up trying to keep track of my vet bills for Alex - she's on 8 different meds/month, plus chiro every 2 weeks, and we won't even discuss the bloodwork etc...WAY too depressing  I just hand over the Visa or debit and figure it's probably best not to know :) (but certainly worth every penny and more!)

Yes, $80 just for the visit--but they did have the free nails and anals clinic on Thur afternoon.

There's a center in Westbury, Patt, called the Center for Specialized Veterinary Care. You can even stay overnight with your animal if its hospitalized. I know someone who had her dogs dental issues taken care of there. Is this the one you saw?

My vet charges $75.00 for a regular visit (I think). If it's just for a VOM adjustment, it's $32 or $35 (I can't remember which). I always have more than one dog and am picking up supplements so I can never remember how much just the visit is.
