View Full Version : Moving Questions

I'm moving on the 15th. But am actually going to the new apartment to clean this weekend. Then I'm going to gradually move some stuff over the next week. Should I bring Pippit when the place is empty? Will that freak him out? Or should I wait until I have some of our familiar things there before I bring him?

I'd take him over and take some of his things with you this weekend, and leave them there so there is something familiar next time. And maybe give him something he really likes, like a bone or a Kong to work on, so he will develop a happy association.

Didn't he go on vacation with you? How did he adapt to the place you stayed?

I'd take him with you. I've moved twice with various members of my crew and have always taken them along when I moved stuff over. They seemed to adapt very well. Don't be surprised if you have to do a mini course in Housebreaking 101. I've had problems both times I moved and had to do some retraining.

ITA with the others, I haven't moved in years but that sounds like a great idea to take him with you. I'm sure Pippit is happy wherever he is as long as he is with you. :hearts: :hearts:

Bailey didn't have a problem adjusting to the new apartment when I moved in August. His problem was everything in his old house being packed up. I had the inconvenience of moving 3 hours away, so it was a one trip deal...maybe since you are closer and can do it gradually, Pippit will be fine.

The most traumatizing thing for my two when we moved was packing their stuff up. Heidi just looked at me with such sad eyes as each thing went into the box. I packed half their stuff and brought it to the new place and the next time I came over, I brought just Buddy to get him aquainted and the next time just Heidi. Then I brought them both and I really think that helped them adjust a little better. It was an INCREDIBLY hard move on all of us as Daddy didn't come too. I really think introducing them to their new home slowly made it much easier.

He did go on vacation with me and dealt with that very well. What got me worried is that I had to bring my couch back on Monday(exchanged it at Pier 1 because it had a rip) Well, Pippit considers that HIS couch. He sulked and acted like I was mad at him for the rest of the day~even after the new couch was brought in.

But thanks for all the advice!!

Yes, I'd take a few toys over for him too. And maybe even leave them there so next time you go there's already something there that's his. And a blankie or two.

We'll be moving in March so I'll following your progress with interest. Tasha is fine on vacation so hopefully it won't be too big a trauma.
