Buddy is slowly improving, and now is 8 weeks after IVDD surgery. We go for daily walks. His legs are a weensy bit stronger, so he stumbles less often. Proprioception is pretty good. No knuckling over. But he still places his rear feet too central underneath his body rather than under his hips. That's why he falls when changing direction. He still does the bunny-hop (for speed), and still has that weirdo waddle gait rather than normal alternating of legs. Still cannot lift his rear legs to climb a street curb. Dunno if he ever will? We hope so. Most importantly, he's independent & happy-go-lucky. Yay!

His 3rd PT session was today, and did the underwater treadmill again. After that, he magically switched back to correct walking gait, for a while. That is a wonderful machine.

What a good boy he is!!! Nerves are slow to repair, so I'm sure he'll get better and better. I know it seems like forever but it's early days still...

That's a great video! You go Buddy!!!

Jax never needed therapy, but I took several foster doxies who were recovering from surgery to have this same therapy.

Great vid. Buddy is such a good boy doing his underwater exercise. He's doing a good job, looks like he may enjoy it.

More healing :bigrayz::bigrayz::bigrayz: for him.

That is so cool! So much better than just swimming (which was all there was 15 or so years ago when Amanda had her surgery. Even the swimming did help strengthen her legs and also helped get the rhythm of walking back. I"ll bet the treadmill will really help. As Amy said, it does take time for the them to heal completely.

He's doing GREAT! Don't worry about his stumbles; the nerves take a LONG time to re-connect, as mentioned. Time is your friend. Don't try to rush him too much - just keep on slow and steady with lots of patience. The slower the better, IMO! I kept Jack crated for 8 weeks after his surgery, and VERY slowly got him moving again. More :bigrayz::bigrayz::bigrayz::bigrayz:
