OK, we have this huge older black lab that runs around loose in our neighborhood and nobody has been able to catch him. They all say he does belong to someone, he has a collar and tags, but nobody is able to get close enough to catch this dog. During the year we have been in our home we have caught him several times in our backyard, he just jumps over the little 4ft fence we have by one section of the yard. They neighbors say he is harmless and has been running around the area for years.
Luckily everytime we have caught him in our yard, Heidi and Princess were not outside at the time, I have always been terrified of the day that I let them out and that black lab is in our yard. I worry about my 2 doxies becoming supper for this dog.
Well the other night my worst fears came true, I let the girls out to potty and it was pitch black outside in the yard and you cannot see anything back there, I watched them go outside and then all of a sudden they ran to the tree where the sinister squirrels hide out and the big black lab was in the yard:shocked:
I stomach almost flew out of my mouth, I did not have any shoes on or coat to go and run out there, I was frozen at the door just watching the exchange.. Much to my surprise there was nothing but wagging tails :cheer2: :cheer2: . Oh, I was relieved.. I still stayed there and watched all of them very carefully for I was afraid to run away from the door and get my coat and shoes. I put on the back light and the garage flood light and was happy to see that Heidi and Princess were not angry at this huge interloper in their yard, they were actually quite happy to see this big black thing, they were wagging their tails at him, and smelling his legs, they could not get close to his butt for he was too tall. The black lab was also wagging his tail a mile a minute, so he was also happy to see Heidi and Princess, they followed him around the yard for a minute or two and then watched as he took a huge dump by the bushes, then of course they had to go and smell it :rotfl: :rotfl:
then he jumped back over the fence and ran off into the night,,
Heidi and Princess then started barking as if to say Hey,, where did you go,, come back we want to play..
So the black lab did not eat them as I feared he might, I have not been close enough to this dog to really tell if he is friendly or not..
I just could not see him in the yard at first cause the lights had not been put on yet, I was so scared I thought I was going to have a heart attack!!.
I am glad to know that Heidi and Princess will not go berzerk again if the interloper returns,, now if they could only be that friendly with the squirrels...
