We went out to the races today. It was a bit of an ordeal because you can no longer park in the residential areas near the park. We parked downton and walked back which makes a bit of a walk. And since NONE of the dogs will now ride in the wagon, they had to walk, too.

Here's a view of the race area

All in all, Scooter did really well. He still wanted to eat small running children, a skateboarder and some random people that seemed to piss him off for some reason that only Scooter knows, but he did lay down and behave in between. Those of you who saw him a few years ago will remember the wild dog that couldn't relax at all. He's still not great but he is much better. It's still hard for him to be confined to the hotel room and leashed at the park, but he's coping with it much better. We walked him a lot to let him moving. It seems to calm him and keep him happy. The amazing thing is that this dog that looks and sounds like he wants to eat some people and dogs when we are sitting down is an absolute angel when he walks thru crowds. Never growls or barks at dogs or people. Is perfectly mannered and very meek. It's only when you sit down with him that he decides he has to "defend" his territory.

He was very, very good last night. The first year we took him he was so awful that we haven't been brave enough to try again until this year. He couldn't settle down in the hotel room. He paced and whined and barked at EVERYTHING which made all of us miserable. He barked LOUDLY about every 2 hours all night. I think that the DH and I got about 5 or 6 hours sleep each the entire weekend. But last night he was really good. He laid down and went to sleep and only growled a little a couple times. No barking. No restlessness. While he's still a hard dog to take somewhere, he's not impossible like he used to be.

Cash and Miller did fine. It was hot and the heat seemed to bother Miller more than the other two. I had their cool wraps with me and Miller wore one almost all day. We were up on the hill (near the usual place) and so got a nice breeze and were in the shade. I also spritzed them with water which seemed to cool them down with the nice breeze. Down where the vendors are it was so hot. When I took Cash and Miller with me down there, it was almost too hot for Miller. I ended up carrying him most of the time and I also carried him back to the truck at the end of the day. Poor little guy gets so hot and tired, but won't ride in the wagon. :conf4:

All in all it was a good day. We're planning to go back out for a couple hours tomorrow so we'll see what happens then. :crossfin:

How were the vendors this year, Patrice? Did you get any cool stuff? :cheer3:

Love the pics :).

The vendors were about the same as always and at this point I have most of the stuff of theirs that I want :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I did buy a wiener races t shirt from CTDR though. :cheer3::cheer3::cheer3:

It's lonely without all of you! Usually tonight is the pizza party and we're at the hotel watching one of the Indiana Jones movies. At least the DH is watching it. I'm on the computer. :rotfl::rotfl:

I had so much fun there in 2008 with a lot of you and your pups. I remember Amanda in the pen just lovin' on any dog that got close to her. Just too far away from here to travel again.

Thanks for the pics Patrice. Maybe the wagon needs to contain enough treats to get them to the park and back?

I like the shirts; just wish they weren't all mens' cut. Either I buy a huge one, or it's too tight around the chest and neck :sosad:.

Here's the website showing the theme for this year... guessing that's what's on the shirts? Cute :)!

I think you can order them from the site, too, after the races.

Oh, shoot! I wish I'd seen this in time. There are tons of wiener dog shirts and I would have gotten you one, but we're home now. :sosad:

We did have lots of fun even though it was harder with just two of us since someone always had to stay with the wagon and the "stuff". I didn't like to leave Jim alone with all three of the dogs for too long either because if Scooter decided he wanted to eat a dog or kid then Cash would react too and it was pretty hard for one person to handle. So I didn't get as much shopping done as usual. It was very hot in the vendor area and when I took Cash and Miller with me down there it was so hot for them that I ended up carrying Miller and not staying that long. But as I said I already have most of what's there that I want anyway. :rotfl::rotfl:

Cute pics - so glad you're having a better time this year and the weather's isn't ungodly hot. Sounds like the parking and walking is a pain, though -- no doubt you had some very pooped pooches (and hooparents) when it was all over!!!

I forgot to tell everyone that when I was checking in at the hotel, the lady ahead of me was asking if there were any people staying in the hotel that were going to the Wiener Dog races. The hotel clerk said there were several even on party from Canada! I was like "Wow, Lisa and Rafi aren't the only ones that came from Canada". The next day when I was walking Cash and Miller around, I actually met the guy from Canada. He and his wife had come down from Ottawa for the races. His sister lives in Houston and she was coming to see them. I told him that I knew a couple that drove down from Brampton with their dogs. It was cool! :cheer3::cheer3:

I really want to get back down again. I had such a great time last time! And I would love to bring the Cpt. I know he would love it. Maybe next year! :crossfin:

I hope you can come Robyne! That would be so much fun. Maybe things will improve economically and more people can come next year :cheer3::cheer3::cheer3: The Capt could hang with my DH. He's not that social but he'll pretty much go with what someone else wants to talk about or do.

I missed not going :( We really are going to have to plan another massive meet-up. I think Y'all need passports to come and visit Canada for Wienerfest.

I truly wish Frankenmuth still had one. I used to love to go to that one. It was only 5 hours away and I got to see Amy AND the Christmas store (and have Frankenmuth chicken which is super yummy).

I :ditto: that. I really really REALLY miss our dachshund fest! It was the only doxie only event close to home. We do have the Frakenmuth Dog bowl coming at the end of may, they do have dachshund races at least. We'll be there :-)

:cheer3::cheer3::cheer3: Brilliant idea!!!!! The east coast is a beautiful place, and I have a whole guest FLOOR with own bathroom and sitting area. And am VERY dog friendly (of course, if you bring the Millerman, he may not be going back home with you :)).

I think a big DLC meetup in Toronto is an awesome idea!!!! Easy for everyone to get to, and Wienerfest is a lot of fun (or so I'm told). Maybe we should plan it for next year???
