View Full Version : Buddy suffers more back pain

Buddy has not been his exuberant self for the past few 2-3 weeks. Dunno why he started moping instead of bouncing around. Think Eeyore (now) vs. Tigger (normal). Well, this morning, after our otherwise normal but very wet walkies, we got back home & I dried him with a towel. He yelped when I dried his face. Huh? Sore tooth? Then he yelped loudly & withdrew whenever I gently touched his back (testing). Yikes! He's normally VERY stoic, without any hint of drama. Now he's in pain. That would explain his moping.

So now he's confined to quarters for next 2 months. Hopefully no surgery will be needed, this time around. This afternoon, he perked up, walks OK, and no further yelping. But we're taking no chances. Caged! CLANK! We called the vet who's gonna Rx some more meds: Tramadol, Rimadyl, and Pepcid/AC.

I don't think it's worthwhile getting an MRI nor Xray. Crate rest either way.

Funny how this is a repeat performance of his pain during this time last year. Then a month later he went down. Last year, it was just hours after a bath. Yesterday he had another bath. Coincidence? He also got a microchip on Saturday, but vet dismissed the needle as a possible cause. At least it's not the week before xmas.

Funny how vet said she notices more spinal flare-ups & injuries during a full moon. She emphasized that it's anecdotal, not scientific, but just her observation. Hmm.

Oh no. Doesn't your heart just sink when you realize that something's going on?
Best wishes from all of us to Buddy.

Clank indeed. I'm so sorry your sweet Tigger is Eeyore and hope the incarceration and meds do the trick.

I have said in another post, I do think the time of year is a factor in cases where we don't see a direct event (ie., jumped from a crazy height). It seems like a lot of our dogs go down in the fall and in the spring.

I am a big fan of drugs and crate rest. Hoping it will do the trick for Buddy. :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz:

p.s. you might want to look at laser therapy as well to help the area.

I'm so sorry. Poor Buddy. MRI's are just for diagnosis and use with surgery. If you're going to do crate rest, I really don't think it's necessary. Sending :bigrayz::bigrayz::bigrayz:

I'm so sorry! Lots of get-better :bigrayz::bigrayz::bigrayz: for the prisoner, Buddy. I'm betting he will be right as rain after some back rest and meds. Please keep us posted.

Good wishes to your previous pup. Can the Vet call in some pain meds for him?

We still had some of Buddy's leftover meds at home, so vet suggested starting those yesterday and gave more Rx refills today.

My boy is not happy being incarcerated:

His sister is standing (lying?) on guard beside him:

Buddy is doing well nowadays. So we figured we'd let him outta the slammer. Confinement is over. He may return to it if badness manifests itself, or he gets too rambunctious? So far, he's content to be a calm couch potato. That's my boy!

Today he spent a while gazing out the patio door.
