I came home today from work to find Patti doing the drunken sailor walk. He was perky as hell, wanting to play, but he had no control of his hind end. Off to Laura's we went. Not good. She can't say definitively that it's a disc, although all symptoms point in that direction, just based on the x-ray. He has a few discs that are questionable, but no changes from the x-rays we did Christmas Eve. He does have pain sensation and so far bladder/bowel control. So it could also be a spinal cord infection.

The bad sad news is that there's just not a whole lot we can do for him. He's not a candidate for surgery because of his heart (and really, what would it accomplish?...he's a hot mess everywhere), steroids are problematic because of his liver, and a cart is out of the question because of his front end issues, so it's gabapenten, antibiotics and restricted movement and crossing everything that this sorts itself out.

She's doing her best to prepare me for what's coming in the sadly not too distant future. My heart's breaking a little here.

It's so hard, isn't it? Just love him while you have him. He's a doll.

:bighug: for you and lots and lots of rayz for Patti. :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz:

It is heartbreaking to see them like that. Pixel lets us put a thin tensor bandage under him when we go out to potty. P'nut does not, it seemed to stress her out more and she would try to run away from it.

:crossfin: Drugs and time work.

oh crap. Praying for Patti and you. Only thing important is he had someone to love him in his last years. I hope with meds and crate rest he will heal enough :bighug:
