For those of you who have been - can you tell us a little about it?

SURE! It's a wonderful place to see MANY of your fellow doxie lovers as well as any size, shape, color & coat of doxie you've ever imagined! There are costume contests, a parade, a group picture, etc. The CCDR group will be in charge of food sales this year, so hot dogs, chips, baked goods, etc. Typically there are a variety of vendors, including dachshund delites on site. Bring a lawn chair, as you will walk quite a bit & the day can be sort of long. Bring a camera....you won't want to miss all the great shots! And be prepared for it to be HOT & STICKY! This is Ohio after all....and that's JULY!

OH...AND...some of us are a little wild & crazy! The after picnic parties at the restaurants can be a little loud & rowdy! LOL Right Lisa?

Anything else you wonder about? let me know!

Bring lots of money to spend on you puppers.

The NEOD people sponsor a lot of neat raffles. As a coursity to NEOD for putting on the event and not to interfer with the "unwritten" policy for the event DRNA does not do a raffle however we will have a nice booth with a lot of goodies to sell.

April and Doxie Delights is always there.

They also have doggy game and events but I am always too busy with visiting etc., to particapete.

Bring a lawn umbrella if you have one, a hat and sunscreen.

If you are brining a pupper a x-pen is a necessity.

It is my favorite picnic and I always have a great time.

Is it a good idea to bring a cooler for water for the puppers or will we be able to get that? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on water!! Also, does anyone have any websites to get x-pens at a decent price??

Lisa

Becca DO NOT buy an x-pen, I have one and Janet has one and they make a huge x-pen, you can just put Buddy in there when he is not out and about with you! If others have an x-pen, if they want they can join it with ours as well and we can have a gigantic one. Especially since you are just bringing one dog, you do not need one. They are great because you are not constantly detangling leashes - but for one dog they certainly are not manditory.

We always brings tons of water & treats, but yes water is a great idea.....plus I am thinking some of us might be slightly dehydrated on Saturday as well

I was thinking more along the lines of Snooter/Prof (whichever one Goob is bringing today :rotfl:) and Bailey and Buddy....To be honest, I've never even seen an x-pen other than in pictures so I don't really even know how big they are. I had been thinking about getting one for the puppers to play outside in anways...I figured w/ all of us that are going to be there, an extra one wouldn't hurt but if other people have them, I'll let it go...Thanks Lisa!! Now, about that cooler??

I think the more xpens we have the better. That way the dogs have room to move around and play rather than just standing there. We will have quite a few dogs there and they might be squished in with only 2-3 xpens joined. We will be bringing ours.

Becca- If you wanted to get one anyway, I recommend bringing one. However, I wouldn't buy one just to use for the picnic.

I have 4 x-pens and ususally bring them all. Looping them together to make a big one is fun. I will join in with you. The one thing I am going to do this year is buy a fish net to put over the x-pen. with hooks. There is no way I want one of my crew to get out of the pen. I am also bringing my two doggy Perla beds.

I do have to admit that I am getting very excited this year.

Lisa, You were right...that is BobbySox!! AND....the pic of Miss Mon in her hat has Missy Ann right next to her! Miss Mon is the princess...Missy Ann is the QUEEN! LOL

I would say yes to a cooler & bottled water. It is definitely not healthy to give your dogs tap water from the area, so you are gonna want bottled water even in the hotel room. PLUS it gets stinking hot out there! As for spending a lot, the prices are not usually too bad, but I still like bringing my own drinks. Then you know you get what you want. Beckie & I both drink Iced Tea....so we always haul our own along!

Last night Beckie & Sherry were at Lori's (stopped to doctor a sick pup on the way home from the Bucyrus OH show) and Beckie said that Sherry might come to the picnic as well! Big Fun! She has some beautiful puppers too! She owns Sherricks Dachshunds.

This looks like the most fun thing ever. If all goes well, maybe I will have to talk DH into a long journey next year with the boys. I am just not great in the extreme heat/heat stroke easy so we'll have to "work up to it."

Where do you all keep the pups when you go out? Find restaurants with "take out?"

How will we know each other? Are we making t-shirts or pins? I will recognize dogs, but not people as much ... I'm the one with the two fuzzy ones, so that will be easy :)

Lisa
05-08-2006, 04:48 PM
We will have shirts. Rafi is just finishing things up and hopefully we will have some details REALLY soon! Plus, I found that once you meet one person they bring you over and introduce you to the gang!

Thanks for the information on the water, that is good to know.

For the restaurants, we just leave them in the hotel - mine are crate trained, but the rooms at the Sheraton are great because the bedroom is completely separate, so the dogs can't see the hallway or hear the noise, so there is hardly no barking. :hula1: :hula1: :hula1:

I am not sure, but I might be purchasing a small x-pen. Perhaps, I could let Mr. B hang out in the community one- Miss Rigby needs solitary confinement!!! I don't know that she would enjoy a group experience- we will have to see.

This is very exciting!!! I can't wait to meet everybody in person! (Actually, I like you guys, but I'm really excited about meeting your dogs!!! :))

I can't wait either!!! It's going to be great!!!

I think Pippit is like Rigby, except he loves other dogs. It's people he doesn't like so much. So, when approaching us~ask me for a treat first(:) for Pippit) that's the way to his heart. He usually warms up after a few minutes~but he will bark, bark, bark, bark.
