Well, my old and new dear friends, I am here to help with any training and behavior issues you are having, might have or will have (if you are going to get a new furkid).
What I would like to ask of you is that you either PM me or email me (in subject line just say Dog Abbey so I know where it is coming from) with your training/behavior questions and I will adress them for the board. If you do not want me to use you name, I will respect that....No worries, just make sure to let me know. I am doing it this way so that I can compile various data into sections and write an "article/training/behavior" tip according to what I receive...Like the "alum" trick for chewing....I'll talk more about chewing in another article.
Some topics I will discuss are:
Dominance (steps to take to keep you on top)
Fear(s) and how to help your pup overcome them
Training basics: the must-haves for a successful relationship
Chewing: why they do it and how to control it
And Aggression: It's forms and how to handle them all
I do hope that you will help Lisa and myself in this project as, eventually, we will have just one sticky with all the articles set up by name. This is something I have always wanted to do, but had never been given the chance...Soooo, thank you, Lisa, for this opportunity! :cheer2: :cheer2:

 Terrific idea Mary and I am so happy to hear you like The Dog Whisperer, I have learned so much from watching his programs. I did catch his thoughts in one of your posts. :appl: :appl:

Is this going to be a "separate" forum?

I have no idea...ask Lisa and Rafi.
Dear Dog Abbey,
I have a little dachshund named Pixel. He will bark, bark, bark when we leave the house. I have read the Dog Listener, and followed all the stuff in there. Pixel never shows any other sign of being even slightly alpha, but still suffers from separation anxiety. We have tried everything - we used to have him behind a closed door, but have now switched to a baby gate, so he doesn't feel so enclosed and still he doesn't settle. We have tried Rescue Remedy. Any more tips? I really feel bad for him, the funny thing is that he goes into his "house" voluntarily, and it is only once he hears us on going down the stairs the freaking out starts.
Sincerely,
Stressed over stressed puppy in Brampton.

Oh How Wonderful!:appl: Our very own Dog Abbey! :toot:
I could really use your Expertise Mary!
Dear Dog Abbey,
Sophie my wittle Rescue Gal has dominance/aggression Issues.
I am currently taking her to training skool every Tuesday for Socialization with Big Dogs and People.
Sophie thinks she owns ME and feels the need to protect me! If she is on my lap or anywhere near me for that matter. She barks, lunges, growls and snaps!!!! If my husband or my son come to touch me or approach me. When she does this I shout out a firm "NO" and place her on the floor.
She is fine with my husband and son when I am NOT home. She will not go willingly with them for a walk if I am home. I need to put on her leash and pretend I am going outside with them.
Last night I was in tears as my Husband said that He believes we made a Big Mistake taking Sophie. We are unsure of her past. All we know is that she was owned by an elderly woman who had Big Dogs as well. She gave up Sophie as the Bigger Dogs picked on her constantly.
Sophie has been with us since May/05.
I don't blame my husband for thinking this way. She is very agressive towards him when he even tries to give me a kiss!
My husband is home during the day and gives her breakfast and the odd treat. My son gives her treats when he practices commands with her and Casey. She will sit on my son's lap. (only If i'm not home)
She is very connected to me ( Velcro Dog) and I love her with all my heart!
Yes, Sophie and Casey sleep with me on the BIG bed!
Please give us some Guidance.
Thanks..........Sorry this message is slow long, I just want to Help my wittle girl!
Is this going to be a "separate" forum? No - everything is going to go under the "bad dog?" training forum, and I will eventually set up a "master sticky" which will link to all the threads.
For example
Dominance (steps to take to keep you on top)
Fear(s) and how to help your pup overcome them
Training basics: the must-haves for a successful relationship
Chewing: why they do it and how to control it
Aggression: It's forms and how to handle them all
Will all be shown and you can click on any of them and they will take you to the appropriate thread. I am also working on something similar for general dachshund care - and also for emergency care.

Give me a bit to work on these....so far I have 3-4. Is there a way you all could email me these so I can work off-line and not glog the forum? Otherwise...I predict a never-ending thread. How does that sound?

I have not found Rescue Remedy to work. I'll get to work on Pixel's separation anxiety....usually what I tell clients is to begin a desensitization program and I will whip one up for you if you will supply me with yours and Rafi's schedules. Email me if you want with that info. And tell what oyu are doing today with him?!

This is classic domicance aggression and I have some wonderful methods of rehabbing a d/a dog. I have one myself...Bonaparte, the dachsie-by-proxie, and they really work. I use them for all my clients...I'll write something up soon. Hang in there, Janet.
Please send Mary an email with all your Dog Abbey questions or concerns. She will work on them and then import them into the DLC as she has time.
Thank you so much! And GREAT JOB Mary!! :appl: :appl: :appl:
