Please read the following email I just got from a CCDR member. If any of you can help stop this please do.
ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT
Iowa and its animals need your voice again! As you know, most
puppies sold in stores come from hellholes called puppy mills, where
mother dogs and "studs" spend lonely lives in miserable cages,
producing litter after litter, like so many widgets off an assembly
line. A piece of legislation that, among other things, would likely
hinder humane officials' oversight and investigation of these
facilities—House File 2797—has been been passed by the Iowa General
Assembly and sent to Governor Tom Vilsack. Today, please urge
Governor Vilsack to veto this portion of the bill.
If it becomes law, page 43, lines 25 to 35, and page 44, lines 21 to
28, of HF 2797 would classify dogs at these facilities as "farm
products" and their breeding as "agricultural production." These
classifications would likely create roadblocks for humane
investigators who work to protect these exploited animals.
Please take just one minute to ask Governor Vilsack to oppose these
items in HF 2797:
Governor Tom Vilsack
515-281-5211
515-281-6611 (fax)
E-mail
And please forward this message to others in your state who might be
willing to lend their voices to this important issue. Iowa's dogs
and puppies are counting on you.
Thank you for your compassion for animals and for your continued
willingness to act.
