Ok, I've been reading a lot from you guys saying not to buy Greenies for your guys... I was just wondering why? Again, I am not up to date on dog treats, but I thought Greenies were supposed to be a great toy/treat?!!?!?

A number of dogs have died from choking, or from a piece lodging inside them.

http://www.midatlanticpugrescue.org/greenies.html

I know of a New Yorker whose dachshund had one stuck in its gut, they did surgery, and the dog died from complications after the surgery. I think he sued the company.

I wasn't feeding them to Tasha as she gets sick from wheat, but like rawhides, I think its better to not feed them--there are safer cheweys like pizzles and flossies. But supervision is a MUST with any chew!

Hmm... I know I had heard something like that before, but I thought that it had been determined that they were just as safe as any other chewie, but that as with all toys supervision was a must??

Thank you for the info.

I think part of it is how well your dog chews them. And for me, feeding my dog wheat gluten? Well, it doesn't seem like a good treat--meat treats are better!

I use to give Greenies as treats until Burt passed on to the Bridge. Here's his story.

We still give greenies biscuits once in a while- they have bits of greenie (which the dogs loved when we gave out those) but they're tiny bits, so they can't get stuck anywhere.

I read about Burt on another site before I found the DLC......it only took one story for me to ban greenies from my pups diet. True, all chewies require supervision (which Julie and Jax always have), but I'm not willing to risk it with a product that has so many unhappy stories attached to it.

We love Zukes Z-Ridge
www.onlynaturalpet.com

They come in carrot & greenie type flavor. Riley loves them, they last a long time & are all natural.

I gave Tasha one of the Zukes, she thought it was ok. But she prefers flossies and bullys.

Here's another alternative:

I work for P&G and can promise you that extensive testing was done to ensure that these are safe. Also, please click onthe link at the bottom entitled "NEW - Tips to help your Dog Enjoy Chew Treats
and Chew Toys" It's very good information!

PS...my dogs LOVE these! But only get them with close supervision!

This is how I think of giving greenies to a beloved animal. It's like giving your human child a butterscotch candy - when they are ...say....two. Yes, there is the chance they can chew that sucker up real good and swallow it without a problem, but do you really want to take that chance? Yes, dogs, cats, humans can choke on anything at anytime, but to KNOW that so many have had bad experiences with this product, well, it just isn't worth it to me.
