My brother got Tasha a package of rawhide sticks (chopped, pressed) but they're from china. Are they safe? Does anyone else feed imported rawhide?

Its a bag of 50 so I hate to just too it, but always heard things about imported hides being possibly treated with bad chemicals.

I don't feed any rawhide, but if I did, I would only feed rawhide from Canadian or U.S. or from some European coutries.

She normally only gets the chopped hide sticks from the US.

Not that this will help but......

When in doubt...throw it out! Or donate it to your nearest shelter! :hearts:

Casey and Sophie do not eat pressed Rawhide of any kind!
Do you have a picture of this stuff?

In the "old days" lots of people gave their dogs rawhides but now everyone is concerned of what could happen but that doesn't mean it will.

I stopped giving rawhides for chews but if I did I would only purchase the ones made in USA. Rawhides are not regulated from other countries. I have read that rawhides from China, Thailand, Mexico and even India 'could' contain lead, insecticides, or antibiotics and could be in an arsenic-based preservative. Rawhides from the UK or Canada 'might' have Salmonella.

“There has also been a recent FDA alert about the risk of Salmonella associated with dog chew products made from pork or beef-derived materials: refer to the FDA advisory or call 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332)”.

Good suggestion JanUet, "when in doubt throw it out" .

I have also heard that rawhides from other countries could be contaminated and are not good to feed. I do give mine rawhides, but I use american processed rawhides from Omaha Vaccine.

Personally, I wouldn't take the chance. I like the idea of giving it to a shelter, but if it's bad for your dogs, won't it be bad for all dogs? Just thought about that......

If you are suspicious, don't feed it to Tasha. JMHO.

I only give pressed rawhide from the US or compressed.

I'd probably just toss it too, but don't tell the brother (and thank him for thinking of her :) ).

Thanks for the support guys. I've known tossing it was the right thing to do but I feel bad as it was a gift. But better to be safe!
