Poor Po has a fractured tooth
Napoleon's had odd-smelling breath for a little while now, and I was snuggling with him and checking out his teeth Saturday when I noticed one was cracked! He has terrible teeth to begin with, yellowed and stained from all the antibiotics he was on long-term as a puppy. So we saw Dr. Huskey today and she told him how beautiful and great he looked, but that he does indeed have what's called a slab fracture. The tooth has to come out, and in the meantime he is on 2 pills (antibiotics) twice a day which he is not a happy camper about! He's already up to his old tricks of spitting the pills out no matter what. He will be going in for the extraction next Tuesday, the 9th. I am sure everything will be fine but it will still be hard!
I don't know what could have caused this but he always chews on this hard grenade toy we have as well as nylabones. Of course he eats bones in his diet, but I always take care to feed very meaty, edible bones - ones that aren't bare and so ones that have less risk of tooth breakage. I think he could have broken it on a number of things but I think more than anything the poor quality of his teeth contributed to this, so what can I do about it?? Poor Po! At least I found it early and it doesn't seem to be bothering him yet.
