    Default Jogging Lesson #1

I couldn't decide whether to post this with the weight loss threads or Wiener Adventures or Bad Dog? (training). I finally decided that this was a Wiener Adventure. I need to get back to my exercise routine, but the DH is still recovering from the killer Christmas cold everyone here has had and so he doesn't want to start back to the gym until next week. So tonight I got home at 5:30 and decided to take Scooter for a jog. I figured this would have the double reward of me getting some badly needed exercise and Scooter getting some badly needed exercise! Me, to keep in shape and keep my weight down and Scooter so he doesn't drive us crazy wanting to play all evening.

So I change into jogging clothes and a ball cap and Scooter and I start out. You have to realize that Scooter is barely leash trained and doesn't really heel. He's all excited and pulling and I'm working with him and thinking "Are you nuts? Taking this untrained dog out to the golf course to jog?" But once I started jogging he pulled a little and then settled in beside me to jog! I was amazed. He was better at jogging than either Cash or Miller. The only time I had a problem was when I met another person or a person with a dog and then he wanted to be on the side away from them. The first time we met someone I tried to pass them on the right hand side and Scooter went zooming across in front of me and almost tripped me. I learn fast. After that I passed on the left and we had no problem at all. All in all it was a good jog and hopefully Scooter will be a little more tired out than he usually is. I'm so proud of him. He was a very good boy!

Alright:cheer2: :cheer2: YEAHHH for you! I cannot jog, really bad shin splints - stopped me from running. I go for power walks when the weather is ok and the lighting is ok. We have no sidewalks in our neighborhood and these idiots zoom worse than anything I've ever seen doxie style. Maybe I can get some motivation to head for our local park when the time changes. They close at sundown which is less than 1/2 hour after I get off work right now:mad:

Woo hoo! At least you didn't try riding a bike and having him run beside you. I am so amazed when people do that!

Well done! I'm glad he did so well!

We often do sprints with Tasha and sometimes a smell or something will catch her attention and she'll cut me off and I go tripping along trying not to step on her. I think that's what made the meniscus tear worse--I had tripped over her a few days before it started getting worse....:(

I thought about getting rollerblades and going out with her but I have a hunch I'd end up worse for wear....

That is wonderful. Good for both you (for staying healthy) and Scooter for being a great little jogging partner. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

That is great! I bet he enjoyed his time with Mom, too. Cassie is like Scooter... she just has a lot of energy, and really needs to be run like that!
