Mr. Butters is crying when he does stairs...UPDATED post 19

We're going to the vet at 3. I had Mr. B on my lap last night and he cried when I leaned over to get something off the coffee table, which he never does. Then he refused to use his puppy ramp to get on or off the bed. Now, this morning, he cried with every step he went down to go outside (there's only a few.) So there's something going on with either his back or legs.

I rubbed each leg, paw, and his spine and he didn't wince or show any source of agitation, so I don't know where the pain is coming from.

Some rayz that it is minor would be very helpful. We've made a breakthrough with his weight management- we FINALLY convinced my MIL to not feed him for a month to see what effect she has on his weight. I know he'll lose weight now, since she's the only one who overfeeds him, so she will probably realize how damaging her overfeeding has been and we can get him to a healthy weight before problems, like this one, become a bigger issue.
