Default Trixie goes missing for four hours

Last Saturday, I left home to look for new things for the house. Trixie usually says bye when I leave, but this time she didn’t. When I came back three hours later, only Juney greeted me. My son and I looked and looked for Trixie. We called and called for her. We even looked outside. We got truly scared.

In the meantime, Juney is looking at me, running away, then comes back and looks at me, then runs away again. I am so upset that I can’t find Trixie that I’m not really “listening” to Juney. Finally, through my upset, I watch Juney and follow her. We found Trixie! She had been locked up in the closet for four hours! I had taken the vacuum cleaner out, then didn’t notice that Trixie ran in there. I was home for another hour, cleaning, didn’t put the vacuum back, then left the house for three hours, shopping. What a bad mommy I am!

What gets me is that they don't bark about being locked somewhere, and then let us run around and lose our minds with worry while they're safe and sound.
You're not a bad mommy but they sure know how to put the ol' guilt trip on ya, don't they.

OMG! I did the same thing to Pogo once, accidentally left him outside when I went shopping, and the dog is so darn quiet! He just gave me "THE LOOK" when I let him in, it was Pixel who was freaking out and lead me right too him.

It happens, you are a great Mommy!

Pixel squeaks his blasted head off if I close the bathroom door, wouldn't want to know what he would do in a closet.

    How scary!! :relieved:

Ruckus did that once. We were bringing in groceries and then when it was all said and done I didn't see him hovering around me. After everyone running around and calling him and me rushing out front and starting to head around the block SCREAMING his name, my son came running out with him saying he had gotten shut in the office. Never barked a word.... :faint: Rowdie does it so often that if I don't see her, I just start listening for the scratch on whatever door she's locked behind.

:faint: How come you want need your pup to bark they won't and when you want them to be quite they use their loud out door voices? So, glad she was safe and sound.

Silly dogs! Bailey did this once too and he didn't bark either. Now, if a fly lands on a window somewhere, that deserves a bark that will wake the dead!

O my gosh that is scary! I would have been frantic. I do regularly shut one of mine (well...just Laika and Salsa as Owen doesn't do those things) in the guest room and freak out for a few minutes when I can't find them. Laika will bark though or scratch at the door.
Once I shut my cat (Not Bob, a former cat) inbetween the storm door and the front door all night...he must have been trying to sneak out and it was dark and I didn't see him. That was pretty uncomfortable for him...and he clawed his way up the door so in the morning there was this horrifed cat-face staring at me through the window on the door!!

That happened to Julie once....her first Christmas home with me. She was exactly a year old. I had all the doors in my parent's house shut so as to limit her space....my mom went into the office for something, Julie followed her, mom shut the door, Julie stayed in. I then cut the heck out of my finger (thought I might need stitches-but who wants to do that on Christmas Eve?), so we didn't realize Julie wasn't "right there". I DID make a trip around the block, IN THE SNOW (Yes, I said snow, my parents live on the far south side of Houston) looking for her.....Julie had fallen asleep.....I finally started checking all of the other rooms (that had closed doors all night right), and found my little angel. Mom forget that she had gone in the office! I was not happy with her (mom that is)..........

Glad that Trixie is safe and sound and hopefully won't give you a heart attack anytime in the near future!

Don't feel bad, Faye, you can see we all do it! Very scary though.

One time Angel locked herself in the laundry room (the girls were playing behind the door and managed to shut it). They whined at each other on the opposite sides of the door for awhile until DH heard them and came to investigate.
