    Default Tail & Shoulders??

I gave the three girls their showers yesterday, and it was a lot easier than I expected. You can fit three doxies behind a single toilet, lol. Taffy likes showers, so I took her first. Mindy came out far enough to peek at what was going on. Daisy stayed glued to daddy. This time we left the little tub out of it. I wash them in the big shower stall with a massage head on a long hose.....makes it easier.

Daisy did not freak out as much, altho she did want to leave half way thru, but she did very well this time, and I hope the next time she will be willing to stand still and let me wash and rinse as well as Taffy does.

This was probably the first time Mindy ever encountered something like this. I held her carefully and wet her down. At first, she started to move out, but I gave her a little kiss on the head and told her it was okay. Then she let me wet her and apply the shampoo. She really enjoyed the massage, and stood perfectly still for that. It took a little more to rinse her since her hair is just a tad longer than the others.

Even tho she is nice and clean, she looks like she has dandruff. I realize that the food she was getting was not the best, and I have only had her less than a month, and Zandra didn't have her all that long. I am using a spray on conditioner and brushing her to get the oil to come out in her skin. I use a nice gentle oatmeal shampoo on my girls so it doesn't strip the oils. Her hair is now as nice and shiny as thiers is, but her skin must still be really dry.

Would giving her salmon oil supplements help with this? I have been putting stuff on their food, the name of which excapes me, of course (senior moment) that my dil recommended. Taffy looks like a little otter. Lani-something..... But Mindy's skin seems to be really dry. Any suggestions?

The oil will help eventually as will a better quality food..... Lowla.... she had horrible dandruff and flaky skin at first. Lee Anne switched to an oatmeal and tea tree oil shampoo... it works wonders
Sounds like you are having a blast though :hearts:

Bogart's always had dry skin until I put him on raw food. I haven't had any trouble since.

When I got Sweetums, she had terrible dry skin and we used salmon oil on her and it did help. I think a little salmon oil and improved nutrition will probably fix the problem.

Thanks for creating this thread, my Reesie has terribly dry skin and has that "dandruff" look as well. Could you pleases share with me where I can find the salmon oil? Do I apply it topically or mix it with her food? Thanks in advance: :hearts:

The least expensive I have found is at Costco....
They are in the vitamin section and I buy the huge bottle of fish oil caps.... The girls LOVE to pop them with their teeth ...so I give them one a day as a treat

Thanks a million cat! I'm definitely going to get some for my Reesie! She will eat anything, so I'm sure these won't be a problem.

My dh said....they really liked the salmon oil on their food, but it gives them fish breath. (excuse me while I make unlady like snorting sounds like Taffy does). He fed them at 7 pm. Because I didn't feel well, I left work early and got home around 9:30 pm, and Taffy was showing me that she did not have fish breath. Has anyone found this to be a problem? You can already see major improvement in her health, weight and fur from the food we feed.

I would imagine that right after we eat salmon, WE have fish breath, too.

As for where to get it, almost any grocery, pharmacy, etc that sell vitamins and supplements, Walmart, Sams, Target, etc....should have them. Just check the expiration date, and get the freshest ones possible.

Naturally, Mindy found something smelly to rub up against, and dh said she was 'fragrant', and wanted to know if I was going to give her another shower. Uh, no. I got out my box of baby wipes and rubbed her down. She is no longer fragrant...but baby fresh, lol. Love those baby wipes.

    I love the shower story

My girls get a little of the flaking of skin right after a bath because it washes away some of their skin oils, but it doesn't last long, so Mindy's will probably look better soon. I do usually give salmon oil and feel like it helps. Regular fish oil capsules aren't quite the same thing. Do try to find an oil from wild salmon... those from farmed salmon are much more likely to be contaminated with mercury and PCBs (which can cause cancer).

Grizzly brand is nice because it comes in a pump bottle (easy dispensing ).

Ohhh, so I can give her the human kind? I didn't realize that. I have been searching all weekend for a capsule type made specifically for dogs and only found the liquid.

I wonder if putting the liquid kind on her food will help her poopy faster. Any observations on that?

Oh yea, that's the kind at my local pet supply store. I was concerned about shelf life. My little Reesie is barely 4 lbs and I don't know if it will last long enough for her to use it all, since it's liquid form. Do you think I should be concerned about that? Will it go "bad?" They didn't have a little bottle.
