Constipated doxie???

My dad's doxie Ginger is having....well....issues. She will go outside and get in position to poop, but then nothing happens. Dad says she's eating fine, drinking fine, and has her normal energy level (which is not high-she's about 14 I think). What can he give her to help her out ? (I don't think she has an obstruction, but I did make him aware of the possibility and he is watching her closely)

Pumpkin...anything with a lot of fiber. A tablespoon of plain pumpkin filling. But at her age...I'd prob. take her to the vet if she really hasn't pooped and it's been a few days...
Mackeral makes my dogs poop like crazy (just had our weekly fish day Monday. Boy they love that)

Hmmm . . . I don't think I've ever had much problem with that, but with 5 dogs it's hard to keep track of who's doing what. :lol:

I'd try giving some pumpkin. It's good for tummy issues so maybe it would help digestion, too. Other than that I don't know.

Tell them not to overdo it-just a tablespoon! Laika got bad diarhea from pumpkin.

Oh,yeah. Just use a tablespoon to start until you find out how she does with it. That'll probably be all you need.

Is she drinking OK, Tex? It's probably just constipation, and if she's ok otherwise, not a big worry (unless it goes on a couple of days...in which case a visit to the vet is in oder incase it's an obstruction). But I also seem to remember that straining to poop with no results can be a sypmtom of a particular disease and I can't just remember which one. (I HATE middle-aged memory...CRAFT :mad2 I do know that we were concerned that Alex had it at one point, and that it was endocrine related, I think. Hmmm...I'll try to see what I can find. Anyway, keep us posted, OK?
