that just makes me sick...There are a LOT in rescue here too. And in Florida there are tons too.
Salsa is such an awesome little dog but I meet so many chis that are not...people allow them to get so spoiled and nasty then give them up becasue it isn't cute anymore.
And they ARE so vulnerable....they can be injured so easily.
What a lot of people don't realize is that they are very very loyal dogs. They truly bond to one person and remain true to that. Salsa still loves her former owner but since she shared the attention with at least 20 other dogs and was prob. only the "dog of the moment" there for a few weeks, she becamse attached to me pretty quickly. She loves Rob but if I am not there she is not happy. She doesn't like to go anywhere with him or like to stay with him when I am gone. She likes my friends but only if I am there too.
I've never had a dog that is so much a one person dog as Salsa and thinking of these sensitive little creatures being abandoned is just really really sad.
I'd really like to have more chis at some point although my true favorite breed is the wonderful ween.

I see so many at the Humane Sociey, it's sad. Salsa being the 'dog of the day' makes me sad too. I worry about that for my pack, and make an effort to treat someone special every day....except if they prefer to be ignored. Pearl would prefer I ignored her.

I understand perfectly. One of my friends had a Chihuahua when she first met her husband, but had to give it up, since the dog would not accept her husband at all (he's a good guy, though, and never asked her to give up the dog, it was her decision, since Scott was being bitten all too often).

They are a one person dog, no doubt. This is so sad, and I knew it was going to happen. It's the old story of the 101 Dalmatians all over again. A fad... people just like to have fads, but dogs are not toys, they are sentient beings. I hate people, mostly the ones that are looked upon by the little girls as "idols," like Paris Hilton, Miley Cirus and other idiots like them...

Pat goes in spurts with different dogs. I don't think she is attached to many of them. Some, like Nou Nou remain the "golden child" but others...she'll get a dog...go to great expense and trouble to have one shipped or brought from Europe even. Then it's all about that dog until something happens and she doesn't like it anymore and it is either sold or out in the yard with the pack.
She had a baby groendaal (the black belgian shepherd), Choisie, that she just "adored". Then the dog breaks her leg in her yard, heals with a lump, so she's not conformation material anymore plus had white on her which they shouldn't have so not breeding stock either so next thing I know she's gone. I know it's better for Choisie but I don't understand how a person can do that. She has some young dogs now that she adores but I'm just waiting for one to be not smart enough or turn out not pretty enough and then they will be gone too. Them being a rare breed makes it a bit different..her dogs would never end up in rescue or a shelter but it's just such a different way of thinking about dogs and I don't like it or understand it. She WILL take back any dog she has sold and she keeps all the old ones or ones with problems but she also continually gets new ones to replace ones she has placed. I think she has around 30 now...not sure. When I was taking care of them there were 34.

And jsut think if they wanted to (people like Miley and Paris) they could do so much good. They could talk about how dogs are a committment and forever...they could lead by example for GOOD instead of the opposite..they could talk about how to properly care for a dog or even how wonderful it would be to rescue a dog but nope too busy being famous.

Well she really adores Rob. When he's home and I'm home, I'm definitely second best but she still cries by the door if I leave.
Last weekend he was trying to get the dogs to do tricks, it was funny,
Cuz they love to do tricks but don't understand doing it for HIM (dogs don't generalize things that easily) so he's trying to get O to lay down and Salsa to jump over him and O won't stay down and Salsa's just barking and barking at Rob to give her the dam treat already.
O and Salsa don't even like to go outside with him. Laika will, but the other two won't go out without him picking them up and taking them out. Dogs are weird.

There was a thing on TV a few nights ago about all the country music people and their pets. I was really amazed at the number who were quite active rescuers...Taylor Swift and Carrie Underhill in particular; Carrie U. has 6 or 7 dogs, all rescued from the pound, and most mixed breed. She gave a very passionate speech about just that. Very cool!!!

I saw Clint Eastwood on the Ellen show the other day and he and his wife rescue animals too. All sorts.
