Default Man Versus Dachshunds- we're at war

Paul has declared war on the dogs. They peed on the bed twice yesterday. Rigby's wasn't her fault- she did the submissive pee when she saw Paul in the morning. Butters, however, has this craptastic new habit.

So, after changing the bedding twice in one day, Paul said if the dogs want to live, they have to learn to sleep in a dog bed in our room. He's very patient and does love them, but every time he starts to forgive them, they pee in the bed again and it's getting OLD. They just went for their annual a couple weeks ago and nothing is physically wrong with them.

Any advice on transitioning them to a dog bed? He's ready to put the crate back together if they don't like the dog bed compromise. Any advice on ending the new pee habit? I think it's because he kept marking that new comforter (now returned) and can still smell it in the mattress. I'm going to flip the mattress and see if it helps. I'll also wash everything in simple solution.

Please help. I am caught in the middle, defending them while feeling very disappointed in them myself.

You'll probably have to do crate training 101 again. :goodluck:

I was afraid of that. Back to NILF, too.

I am so sorry.I saw an episode on animal planet where dog beds were put down and they were put in their beds and told to stay etc and then given treats but maybe it would be easier to start back at square one with crates.Good luck

Crates. They can be in your room, just confine from your bedding. Then you can slowly go back to snuggle time, and if that goes well, then they can have full bed rights again.

I agree with Lisa. That's what we did when the dogs started peeing on the floor during the night. They slept in their crates for several months and then we start first letting them sleep in the bed on the weekends and then eventually all the time. So far, it's gone well and that was a couple years ago.

We've put the baby gate back up and they're only allowed up there with us during supervised time. We have let them sleep with us and so far, so good. Butters is very sneaky and only does it when he knows he won't get caught.

The crate is in the shed, passed 70 feet of 3 foot tall snow drifts, lol, so we're hoping they can behave themselves. Next accident, Paul will trudge through the yard and dig it out, though.

Thanks for the support in our war.

I feel for you. Trxie started this sometime ago (with a new spread), so she's no longer allowed on the bed.
Perhaps one day we'll try it again, we'll see...

They may be small, but you should see their hearts. Shelter/Rescue dogs aren't broken. They've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write. The ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Do not pity a shelter/rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness on your side. Anon
