Default What's Up with Food Relocation???

Millie does this... a Border Collie we used to have did it... but not all of our dogs do it.

Millie will get a mouthful of food/kibble from her bowl in the kitchen... walk into the dining room, family room or some other room... spit it out on the floor and then eat the kibble pieces one by one. When she's done, she heads back to her bowl for another mouthful.

Anyone else have dogs that do this? Anyone know WHY they do this?

    Just curious.

When we give the dogs treats, Miller always takes his to the living room under a chair and eats them and then comes back for more. I always thought he did it to keep the other dogs from getting it because they're piranas about food, but I don't really know.

Laika USED to do it but once we got Owen, she gave it up LOL. Owen would run back to her bowl and eat what she hadn't gotten to yet. She liked to take them onto the living room rug. I have no idea why though.

Jack does it, too. He picks up a mouthful and usually drops it a foot or two away from his bowl; eats it, one at a time, then goes back to his bowl for more. I'd love to know why he does that! (He only does it with his breakfast, not his evening meal.)

Miller only does it with treats. At dinner time they all have to eat every bite and thoroughly lick the bowl so the others don't get any.
