Fat ween update

I need to teach that to mine. I started with Miller once and he will still come and touch my hand if I hold it out. I wasn't doing it quite the way you describe which sounds like a better way. I"ll have to try that! I've been looking for some things to teach that could be taught in the house since it's too hot to go outside.

Why don't people realized that flexible leads have a lock? The dogs don't have to be 15 ft from you. It's ridiculous. I see people all the time in my neighborhood walking along by the curb with their dog in the middle of the street I guess they think if he's on a leash that's all that matters. Idiots. Reel him in and lock the leash so he's out of the street.

I hate hate hate flexies cuz people don't know how to use them. Heidi's dad prob. COULDN'T reel her in....she's so heavy she prob. just planted herself
I AM glad he didn't walk to her though!!! I would have dragged her a long I think. until she walked. although he walks her with a collar which I wouldn't do either since she pulls. I'd get a no pull harness for her I think. Or practice walking with treats given periodically. it's really hard because I don't see ANY common sense being used. I know a lot of people are clueless about training but gosh...

'zactly!!! I would be lost without my flexies...have learned to manage 3 without too much trouble. Of course, Wen doesn't walk, he gets carried, but managing 2 is no trouble at all. They get shortened up at the clinic though. I'd never trust my guys to walk off leash, so they're the only thing that lets them have a fun walk for them, as well as me.

I'd trust YOU with flexies, Paula, cuz you have a brain and use it LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had dogs go after my dogs around a freaking corner and the human on the other end had no clue what their dog was doing as they gabbed on with other humans. Laika's first trip to Petsmart as a baby, a freaking JRT attacked her around a corner. pizzed me off so much.

we use flexies but only when we are walking the boys outside my work (nice walking path) and no one is around! if we go anywhere else they are on a 6foot nylon lead.

Amy, the one and only time we were at your house and all the dogs were going into the pond, someone (I dont remember who) had a dog on a flexi that ran right around Brian leaving him a rope burn on his leg. I think he still has the scar, thats why I dont like them. People who dont know how to use them otherwise I think their a good idea depending how you choose to use it.

Yes they can be dangerous!! I couldn't walk three dogs with them anyway. or four, I should say LOL. Segue can't walk on a leash yet..
He learned how to sneeze though. I think my priorities are messed up LOL

I used flexies, too. But only for Cash and Miller and only on the golf course. When we go anywhere we use 6 ft nylon leashes. If I"m going to use a short leash, I'd rather have a nylon one than a flex. With a nylon, I can always loop it over my arm and I hate getting tangled up in a flex. Or having someone else get tangled up in mine. How embarassing.

Thats really cool! Shows him how easy Heidi can learn. Maybe he will continue the training.

Touch is a great command. It can be progressed into so many other things. We used a touch stick with a green ball on the end that telescoped like a radio antenna. After they got the touch down, we could use it to train them to walk on the leash by holding it just ahead of them when we walked and letting them catch it occasionally for a treat. We also used the touch command to teach the dogs to ring a door bell when they want to go outside.
