    Default barking..

I've been trying a new tactic for barking. My dogs don't bark a LOT, really, as it is so quiet around here. But because it is so quiet, if the tv or music isn't on, you hear everything. A deer snorted in the driveway and I swear I thought it was in the kitchen LOL.
So when the dogs bark, I am suppressing my desire to yell SHUT UUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPP! (which never works anyway) and have tried whispering instead. seriously. Or just very quietly saying...ok, I got it , guys, I hear you, it's all good. Then get softer and softer. It seems to work! at least work faster than joining in, so to speak.

I'll have to try that. Cash and Scooter bark sometimes, but it tends to be the "barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark" kind of barking. We'll see if they even notice me whispering to them

perhaps if I whispered "treat!" mine would shut up, but then I think that would teach them to bark for treats .

I tried it yesterday, but my calm whisper was no match for the menace at the doorbell. Undaunted, we'll try again.

Well, I haven't really given the whisper a good try yet, but Cash was barking in the back yard last night and I went out on the deck to see what was up. There was a golf ball laying there (we have a LOT of bad golfers) so I picked it up and lobbed it off the deck so it landed about 4 ft from him. He did shut up
