Default Ever heard of the Dog Scouts of America?

What is the Dog Scouts of America you ask?

Dog Scouts of America (DSA) was established in 1995. It is a non-profit organization people who are dedicated to enriching their lives and the lives of others with dogs. Founder, Lonnie Olson, has made it her life's ambition to experience as many dog sports and skills as possible with her dogs. If you believe that dogs really enjoy learning new things and spending time with their owners, you're our kind of dog person. Dogs were not meant to be "furniture." Working dogs want to work. Without having an acceptable activity in which to use up all of that energy that comes "built-in" with a dog, our canine companions often get into trouble. By better understanding how your dog thinks, how he learns, and what drives his behavior, and by participating in a variety of dog sports and activities, you will become a more responsible dog owner. We hope to prevent misunderstandings, communication failures and behavioral problems which often lead to dogs being given up as a "lost cause."

I am a Troop Leader in the Columbus, Ohio area but if you are interested in finding or starting a troop in your area you can always check out the DSA's website and see what's around you.

    This is my Troop's website:

We started our Troop in August 2010 and in that time we have hosted a Fundraiser that purchased oxygen masks for all of the Fire Trucks in Central Ohio. We have visited many schools and nursing homes with the dogs to spread information about positive training and responsible pet ownership and of course to let the dog's entertain! We helped a Girl Scout Troop earn their Pet Care badge. And of course we have held many training sessions for the dog's to learn new tricks and behaviors, play games, go on hikes, and in general make new friends. I am so excited to have discovered this whole group of dog people who regard their dogs in the same way that I do.

Check out our website for pictures of the fun things we have done!

My holistic vet suggested that organization to me, but I haven't really checked it out.

    So cool. Thanks for posting.
They may be small, but you should see their hearts. Shelter/Rescue dogs aren't broken. They've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write. The ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Do not pity a shelter/rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness on your side. Anon
