Unhappy Low-la is in the Hospital: January 16th Update #55

She was fine when I got home from work yesterday. As the evening wore on she started to get quiet. She refused her potty walk and her snacks! I knew something was up just not what.

She didn't wake me through the night to drink but when we got up this morning she drank and drank and drank. Then she vomited. I did not know dogs can projectile vomit. What a mess. Poor baby.

I called the vet and told them I was on my way with her. She was burning up but shivering. I kept covers on her the whole trip in. When we got there they took us back and asked me a couple questions before telling her Dr. she was there. Once she found out it was Low-la they quit dinking around and took her away and started an IV and did blood work.

Her Dr. called me about an hour later to tell me she has a raging infection and she was going to keep her for the night and possibly until Saturday until her white count comes down. She said it wasn't related to the Chemo but I'm not 100% convinced . She may have picked up a bug being there all day on Monday for her ACTH test. We'll find out tomorrow I hope.

I called at 5:00 to check on her. They said she was quiet and resting. She had not vomited again so they were going to try to give some food and water in the morning. She'll be starved! She has had nothing to eat since 6:00pm Wednesday!

Some rayz would be great if you can spare them.

Ugh... sounds like what happened with Cass after they had their dental and skin lesion removals in 2009 - apathy, drinking, projectile vomiting and all. Lots of rayz for your girl who does NOT need to deal with this right now!!

Yikes! Poor Low-La. I feel for her. Sending lotsa healthy for her speedy recovery & full health. She got so very sick so very quickly. Good that you brought her in so fast, and that they know her well. Is this perhaps canine influenza she caught in hospital? Please give her a hug?

Sending many DLC magical to Low-la. I hope she is feeling better by tomorrow.
They may be small, but you should see their hearts. Shelter/Rescue dogs aren't broken. They've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write. The ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Do not pity a shelter/rescue dog. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness on your side. Anon
