    Default Spinal Stroke

I had never heard of this but it happened to Oscar on April 18th. It was awful. We were sound asleep early in the morning and and someone rang our doorbell. Oscar jumped up barking ran down the ramp by the bed, screamed out and collapsed. He was then not in any pain but was totally paralyzed on his left side both front and rear legs. Couldn't stand up, couldn't walk. My vet gave him a couple laser treatments and then I took him to the neurologist who said she suspected a spinal stroke. (And kudos to Amy for calling it when I posted on Facebook before I got the official diagnosis ) After a couple days of doing physical therapy exercises, prednisone and rest he stood but his left front paw kept knuckling under. Now, after 11 days he is almost back to normal. I am so relieved!

This is apparently a rare occurrence in small dogs. A blood clot breaks free and enters the spinal area. There isn't any real treatment other than what was done. Just thought I'd share as Oscar and I learned something new the hard way!

Wow, Lorrie! I've never heard of that. Thank you so much for posting about it. It's always good to have more knowledge even if it's about something rare.

Sending more for Oscar and for you

Wow! that is so scarey. I hope Oscar continues to improve.

Love the photo. Reminded me of one I took of Engli. What do you think? She was digging and pulling out grass which is the clump hanging from her mouth. Hope you think it's cute. They both look fabulous in red, don't they?
Best wishes for Oscar's recovery. Hugs to you both.
