I was contacted last week by a vet who had a dachshund with neck pain. Seems her clients brought in their dog to have him PTS without trying anything to help him recover. She was livid with them and had them sign him over to her and started crate rest and pain meds but sadly his pain was getting worse and the pain meds had to be given every 3 hours instead of 8. I was able to take him thanks to CCDR and we rushed him to K-State on Saturday. Before the 2 hour trip we gave him a does of pain meds so he would be pain free but that wasn't the best idea. When we got to the vet hospital he was acting fine and we were going to be sent home with pain meds and crate rest. My dad wasn't happy because we knew we'd be back but not as soon as it happened. While I was waiting to check out and get our meds dad took Bucky outside and then to the car. He sat with Bucky and poor little guy started shaking and yelping in pain. Dad brought him in and we had the vet come back and take another look at him. By this time we could hear Bucky all over the building screaming in pain (talk about heart breaking). They decided to keep him and do a ct scan but sadly it was being replaced so we had to wait until it was installed. But, they were able to keep him pretty pain free with injectable pain meds. Then on Monday he had surgery through the front of his neck on C2/C3. He's on codiene to control his pain but that'll end tomorrow so we'll see how he does and then its 6 weeks of crate rest. He's feeling so good that he's already protesting so its going to be a long six weeks.
Meet Bucky and Dr. Wallis who refused to give up on this sweet boy.
