Default I, Savannah, am being starved to death...

Ok I know that doxies are notorious chow hounds, but I swear Savannah truly believes she is starving to death. She is pitiful - sits by her bowl and whines. Does the "look at food canister, look at Mommy, look at food canister, look at food bowl, look at Mommy" thing.

I know she's not underweight.i know she gets plenty to eat. I know she gets small treats every time she goes potty outside and a stinky treat every time she goes in the box when asked.

She's pitiful!!!! Sutton has broken her evening feeding into two portions, one around 430 or 5 when I get home and one when we eat supper, around 630 or 7, but she's still pitiful.

Suggestions? Besides "don't give in," I mean..

Boy does she have you wrapped around your finger.

Give her a green ban or piece of celery.

Bones...that way you'll keep her busy, help her chewing fetish, and a bone smells like food!

    Yup!

Scooter used to eat out of one of those stainless bowls. He'd go get it and throw it around the kitchen to get my attention. I finally had to start putting it on top of his crate after he ate so he couldn't.

Adding green beans might fill her up more and resolve the issue.

Baxter has the same issue. Gets food, treats, treats for going to his crate. And he is always licking his dish. Before & After eating. Like I dont feed him enough and when he eats he acts like he hasnt in months.

Maybe fewer meals, but larger portions? Puppies need frequent feedings, but she's no longer a puppy, so once a day is good. Perhaps 1 bigger meal would give her the satisfaction of feeling of a full belly?

Just had a thought...Patti is on a "satiety" kibble, which is meant to make them feel full longer (I'm guessing that it expands quite a bit in the stomach, judging by how much it expands when I soak it). Might be worth checking out. I know Hills makes a version, and the one I'm using is Royal Canin.

All of my dogs act that way

I feed twice a day. I have a couple that are susceptible to empty tummy syndrome and it helps them to feed them more often. Because Miller has had seizures I like to keep him blood sugar even. Low blood sugar can trigger seizures.

She gets green beans and will even eat lettuce. Loves it. Loves everything... (sigh)
