In her very first week with us, Lizzy has learned some new tricks! Atta girl! We're going through lotsa little pieces of dehydrated meat, but it's totally worth it.
She has learned "sit" very well indeed (verbal & hand-signal), and it's my go-to command when she needs to calm down (eg, enter/exit the house, or ignore the open door).
Lizzy also knows "come here & touch my hand", which is a hand signal (open palm). It will eventually morph into "come", and I'm using this to train her into following me everywhere I go (eg, walkies). She's not lightning fast at it (like Buddy is), yet, but we're working on it.
Lizzy also has caught onto "ring the hanging bells to go potty outside". This is my favorite cuz it means no more accidents in the house. :-) She's rung the jingle bells consistently for the past few days. She gets a treat for ringing the bell, for each outdoor potty action, and and for sitting there after reentry, too. Plus she eats grass, so going outside is profitable & fun.
Buddy & Lizzy do cooperate (grudgingly) on walks with a short "coupler" link between them. Mostly, it's Lizzy wanting to go faster, and Buddy wanting to go slower. Oh well, this needs work.
Last night, they slept in the same crate, with a divider, for the 1st time. No crying, so it was a success. She prefers having company. She always cried when banished to her own crate on previous nights. Maybe soon we'll remove the divider?
I need to learn how to teach Lizzy to heel, not pull on the leash. I'm at a loss here. She's very insistent upon going ahead.
I feel like a new papa with a new puppy. So many things to learn. :-)
