I took Lily to the vet last night because she had a bump on her jaw. I wasn't sure if it was a tumor or maybe just a bad tooth. The vet confirmed my worst fears....it's cancer. The tumor has wrapped around her jaw from her molars all the way to the midline. I just noticed the bump a couple days ago, it's obvious looking at her so I think it came on pretty fast. The vet thinks it's an aggressive, fast moving (malignant) cancer. Right now she is not in pain, even when you touch the tumor. So the vet took urine and blood samples (she was due anyway since she's a senior) and we will go from there. He said they might want to x-ray her lungs to see if it's spread. He didn't think she would be a good candidate for surgery because of her age (11yrs old) and the fact that she has a grade 3/4 heart murmur. She is eating and acting normally, bouncing around like nothing's wrong. So, for now my goal is to make her as happy and comfortable as possible until I can see that she is in pain and it's time. Last night after the vet's I took her for chicken tenders and French fries. I wanted her to enjoy a "bad" meal while she was still feeling and eating good.
