    Default Farewell, Fancy !

My mom had to help her cairn terrier to the Bridge today. She got Fancy soon after my dad had his stroke, so she was 15. She was a great source of comfort for my mom and an awesome companion for my dad.

She would get out of the way when he said 'beep, beep, beep' in his wheelchair, and she loved cheese!

Poor dear had arthritis and was losing bowel and bladder control. She was in pain there at the end and mom did the last kind thing for her.

She was named for the Reba McIntyre song of the same name, (you knew the girl in Reba's song was named Fancy Rae Baker, right?) and she will surely be missed.

Aw. so very sad. Good bye sweet beautiful little Fancy. May you run free, little one. Maybe uptown? Our condolences to your Mom, Rae.

P.S. So both you and Fancy were named for that same song? Gosh, powerful song!

I was born in 1967 so Reba wasn't even famous yet
The name "Rae" actually came form a movie (circa 1961) named "Back Street." Mom watched it while she was pregnant with me and told me that the heroine - Rae - portrayed by Susan Hayward, was a "take no crap" kind of girl, who despite less than ideal circumstances made her own life and was a success in her business.

Granted, the Rae Smith of movie fame DID have an affair with a married man, but Mom thought she had enough good qualities that she wanted me to be named after her. So, here I am

Cool story, Rae. I think it's so neat to know why your Mom & Dad chose a certain special name for you. It has more meaning, that way.

Beautiful little sweetheart. I am so sorry for your mama . It's a wonderful, powerful song. Mamas take care of their babies, even if their ways are sometimes unconventional.

My mom just recently revealed she wanted to name me Lauren, and compromised with Dad on Kimberly (he wanted Karen or Kathy or something). I always hated Kimberly . Mom for the win! I wanted to name a doxie Lauren, but DH did not go for that.
