    Default Jemma at Saturday class

We've been taking Jemma to Sat am classes and initially she's been very scared of bigger dogs but she's really getting a lot more comfortable.

Every Saturday we do this exercise with the 2 sammys that stay in a down position. Today Jemma is getting boiled chicken on the floor and they are keeping their down. What a fabulous job they did. Just 10 min earlier they were off leash and came over to play with Jemma and over whelmed her a bit, she got scared. So we practiced this again and then another lady came over to hold Jemma's leash and offer some food while I did the video. What do you think? Jemma is 5 months.

I don't know much about training, but it seems like a good method. She's a little cutie.

Sometimes I think it wouldn't be a bad thing if little dogs in general were a little more cautious around big dogs. They seem to have no clue of size discrepancy and start stuff they can't finish .

Good job! Beautiful Sammys, too. My daughter and I had them many years ago. Lovely dogs. Jemma is pretty too.

Jemma is so BIG already! She's catching up to those big fluffy monsters. And she looked perfectly comfortable around them, so your calming techniques are working. Yay!

Fwiw, Buddy had big fear-aggression when we first got him, and he would bark and then attack big dogs. Esp. big black ones. So we took him to every dog-meeting opportunity we could find (Petsmart, dog-parks, walkies, farm, etc.) and he soon overcame all that fear, and is totally calm nowadays. Food doesn't overcome fear, but a calm gentle demeanor does. One thing we often see is how people we meet YANK the leash or keep it too TAUGHT, which signals to their dog that meeting another dog creates tension & fear in the owner, so be ON GUARD. That tight leash alone causes problems, which disappear when the other owner releases it (yes, I do ask them to). Buddy eagerly goes to greet other dogs, but body language is their prime factor when approaching. If the other dog is tense, then Buddy won't go greet. If calm, he will go greet. On/off leash doesn't matter.
