SadieRose, my little red "she devil" never tries to get out of the yard - yea right.

Today while I was putting the riding lawn mower to the back yard she deceided to go exploring all over the neigborhood. For 22 minutes, she visited every tree jumping up to see if there was a squirrel in it then ran to the next tree with me right behind her saying Sadie "treats come". No way was she coming she just ran to the next tree. Eventually, I go back to the house for the van thinking she might come to the van door for a ride. I climb in the van and turn to close the door and there she is ...... waiting as if everythiing was fine.

Ah, yes. I remember those days with Scooter. Running madly down the street yelling his name. I"m so glad he finally grew up.

I'm glad SadieRose came back home even if it wasn't exactly on time.

Ugh, just reminded me. I felt slightly safer here because it's a gated community with fencing on 3/4 of the way around. Shoot, shoot SHOOT! The place I am moving to is completely open. Guess it's time to put a baby gate at the front door.

Yikes! How scary for Sadie to go AWOL like that. Seeking excitement of the squirrel chase? Glad she came to her senses so soon. Situation normal. Whew! Yeah, she probably thought it was a nice walkabout. But Mutter didn't really need those heart palpitations, little one.

I know it's super hard to do but if you follow them, they just keep going. it's like...hey cool, mom/dad is going for a walk with me. If you can run the opposite direction, clap your hands, or better yet, lay down and kick your feet in the air, they generally will come and see what the heck you are doing. of course the older we get, the harder it is to lay down. or, more accurately, get up again LOL. I've had to do it on the agility course with weirdo Segue who sometimes just can't handle the stress and hides in tunnels.
I teach my students from day one to run away from their dogs when they don't come to them and it's pretty amazing. We start each class with a restraint recall with the owner running from the dog, then hide and seek. Dogs will stay with their owners a lot better if they realize mom or dad can DISAPPEAR! of course some dogs, like laika, was just glad if I was hiding. she'd be like...cool, she's gone, what can I do that is sneaky and bad. But even Laika eventually was able to be trusted off leash. never by a road of course but I walk my dogs through the agility trials past all sorts of dogs to the potty area and don't have to use a leash. pockets filled with treats help, of course!
oh I miss my Laika. Twylie Puppy is awesome but getting very independent now. I gotta take some more pictures for you guys.
