Default Beau is a GOOD BOY!!

Beau has an allergy to plaque which means plaque on his teeth will make ulcers in his mouth, including his palette, under his tongue, inside of his cheeks. It's very painful and he smells bad when that's going on, like his body smells bad. When the vet said we would need to bring him in every 4 months, well that was the right thing to say to keep us motivated. Who can spend that kind of cash year in and year out?

We've been brushing and flossing, and he's not much for cooperating. It's a good thing hubby puts him in a head lock so I can get the job done. lol

Beau surprised me this week though, let me do a touch up scaling. Wow. I wouldn't have guessed that would have happened! Here's my very good boy!!

I think his last dental cleaning at the vet is about 5 years ago now. Boy, I'd like to see that vet again and thank her. lol

I think I remember you talking about him letting you do things if he was holding the ball? That's so cute.

He's a very good boy, and you and the DH are good parents to be persistent. I swear with any future pups, I am going to brush (or at least dental wipe) from a very young age so they get used to it.

Also, we need a new pic or two of Beau (all of him)

Actually the toothbrush and floss aids have been doing all the work to keep things clean. I haven't used a scaler at all for years except I tried it out because it seemed like the inside cheek was starting to ulcer up. There was just a bit of 'sand paper' feel to the tooth. I really don't think a dog would cooperate to the point that you could get the tooth nice and smooth if there was some deposit there. Not to mention the injury potential, to yourself and the dog mouth.

Humans need a plaque allergy. Can you imagine how meticulous you'd be with your personal oral care if the immediate consequence was painful mouth sores otherwise?

Maybe we need to try to let Darby hold his ball while Dr C does his back.

    Nice teeth!
