Default Mom's Dog - eye medications

Anyone have a dog with glaucoma?

Mom's 10.5 year-old cocker spaniel had developed a cataract, and his eye looked swollen so she took him in, and the pressures were high in that eye. They recommended starting latanoprost and dorzolamide drops. Two days later his eye was even more swollen, red, and painful. Our vet recommended we follow up with the specialists at Blue Pearl because they were concerned there might be a blockage that wasn't allowing the drops to work... the pressure wasn't going down. Of course, this was Friday, so they sent her to Tampa where there was supposedly an ophthalmologist working. I drove them over - about 75 min at rush hour. The ER vet said she wasn't too worried about the pressures and explained there was NOT an ophthalmologist there. There was one ON CALL ($$$$). They were super nice, and called the guy at home for his opinion, added some other meds, and got the pressure down before we left. They got her a (local) appointment Monday. So now he is on:

NeoPolyDex - Instill one drop in left eye 4 times daily until recheck

Dorzolamide - Instill one drop right eye 2 times daily & to left eye 3-4 times daily until recheck

Latanoprost - Instill one drop in left eye 3 times daily until recheck

Timolol - Instill one drop in left eye 2 times daily until recheck

Genteal Gel - Instill 1 drop in both eyes 3 times daily until recheck

Rimadyl 25 mg tabs - Give one tablet by mouth 2 times daily for 7 days. Give with food.

Allow 5 minutes between each medication when administering ophthalmic drops/ointment

    HOLY FREAKING SHEEP

That is like a full time job. Luckily, she is a retired nurse, and he is super patient, but WTF???? I have plenty of human patients on glaucoma meds, and I've never seen ANYTHING like that.

No glaucoma here, but my aunt had a spaniel with it years ago... he eventually went blind (this was like 40 years ago). That's a full time job right there!! Your poor mom... and pup. Glad they got the pressure down though. Tons of

As a total aside, my hair dresser's brother is a veterinary ophthalmologist in Florida... Tom Miller. Wonder if that was him?

Is 10.5 young for glaucoma? I am sometimes concerned Pogo might have this, but I think he is just blind with no other issues. We are going to the vet next week, and I know that will be one thing our vet will check.

Lots of rayz for your Mom's pupper! I am glad she is home and can administer all those meds. Wow, that is a log.

Rumble used to have dry eyes with cornea ulcers. He was not on as many eye drops but it was pretty time consuming. They probably put him on this regiment because of new diagnosis. Probably after your appointment on Monday it would be reduced.

Thanks guys...I am not sure if that's young for it or not. I guess cataracts increase the risk.

I will ask the name of the ophthalmologist...that would be funny it it's Tom Miller.

Now Angel has a swollen lymph node in her neck I just found last night, so I will take her in today. Always something.

Holy Sheep! I had to put drops in Pebble's eye years ago (not glaucoma). One drop, twice a day. It's was a major ordeal every time. The first days it took 2 of us to do it. Sending for your mom's dog and for your mom for having to do all that. That is a full time job! Hoperfully, they will reduce it after the follow up visit.
